2022 Alberta Municipal Censuses
Alberta has provincial legislation allowing its municipalities to conduct municipal censuses. Municipalities choose to conduct their own censuses for multiple reasons such as to better inform municipal service planning and provision or to simply update their populations since the last federal census. Alberta began the year of 2022 with 343 municipalities. Of these, at least three municipalities are conducting a municipal census in 2022, including the City of Cold Lake, the Town of High Level, and Strathcona County. Alberta is the fourth-most populous province in Canada with 4,262,635 residents as of 2021 Census of Population and is the fourth-largest in land area at . Alberta's 344 municipalities cover of the province's land mass and are home to of its population. 2018 Alberta Municipal Censuses
Alberta has provincial legislation allowing its municipalities to conduct municipal censuses between April 1 and June 30 inclusive. Municipalities choose to conduct their own censuses for multiple reasons such as to better inform municipal service planning and provision, to capitalize on per capita based grant funding from higher levels of government, or to simply update their populations since the last federal census. Alberta began the year of 2018 with 352 municipalities. Of these, at least 38 () conducted a municipal census in 2018. Alberta Municipal Affairs recognized those conducted by 37 of these municipalities. By municipal status, it recognized those conducted by 9 of Alberta's 18 cities, 11 of 109 towns, 4 of 86 villages, 3 of its 6 specialized municipalities, 1 of 63 municipal districts, 1 of its 8 improvement districts, and all 8 Metis settlements. South Cooking Lake, Alberta
South Cooking Lake is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County. It is located on Highway 14, approximately southeast of Sherwood Park. The Cree, Blackfoot and the Sarcee were the first to inhabit the area, and that is where the name originally came from. Cooking Lake was fished commercially until 1926. Large numbers of buffalo, lynx, fox, mink, muskrat, elk, deer, moose, wolves, coyotes, and black bears roamed the area. Today it is still possible to see a variety of wildlife and birds throughout the area. There is a day-use park, which is a great place for family picnics, boating, and windsurfing. North Cooking Lake, Alberta
North Cooking Lake is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County. It is located on Highway 630 and on the northeast shore of Cooking Lake, approximately southeast of Sherwood Park. It is south of the Waskehegan Staging Area entrance to Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Grazing, Wildlife Provincial Recreation Area. Due to the multiple lakes nearby with sandy beaches, North Cooking Lake was known as one of Edmonton's recreation and resort spots in the early 1900s (decade). It was so popular that special trains operated to bring vacationers to the North Cooking Lake Station where steamers and motor boats delivered them to different resorts. Half Moon Lake is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Strathcona County. It is also recognized as a designated place by Statistics Canada under the name of Half Moon Estates. Commonly referred to as ''The Cove'', Collingwood Cove started growing in the early 1950s as a popular summer lakeside resort. It is located on the shores of Antler Lake on Range Road 211 and 211A just north of Wye Road, approximately east of Sherwood Park and northwest of Tofield. Hamlets in the province of Alberta, Canada, are unincorporated communities administered by, and within the boundaries of, specialized municipalities or rural municipalities ( municipal districts, improvement districts and special areas). They consist of five or more dwellings (a majority of which are on parcels of land that are smaller than 1,850 m2), have a generally accepted boundary and name, and contain parcels of land used for non-residential purposes.
