2021–22 Ulster Rugby Season
The 2021–22 season is Ulster Rugby's 28th season since the advent of professionalism in rugby union. They are competing in the inaugural United Rugby Championship (successor competition to the Pro14) and the European Rugby Champions Cup. It is Dan McFarland's fourth season as head coach. The major new signing was South African number eight Duane Vermeulen. Ulster finished third in the URC, and second in the Irish Shield, winning a home quarter-final against Munster Rugby, Munster, qualifying for the semi-finals and for next season's Champions Cup. Lock Alan O'Connor (rugby union), Alan O'Connor won the URC Tackle Machine award, and flanker Nick Timoney and centre James Hume (rugby union), James Hume were named in the league's Dream Team. Ulster Rugby
Ulster Rugby is one of the four professional provincial rugby teams from the island of Ireland. They compete in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup. James Hume (rugby Union)
James Hume (born 7 September 1998) is an Irish rugby union player who plays Rugby union positions#Centre, centre for United Rugby Championship and European Rugby Champions Cup side Ulster Rugby, Ulster. Born in Belfast, Hume attended Royal Belfast Academical Institution and was a key part of the team that won three Ulster Schools' Cups in a row between 2015 and 2017. After leaving school, he joined the Ulster academy ahead of the 2017–18 Ulster Rugby season, 2017–18 season, while playing club rugby for Banbridge RFC, Banbridge. Declan Moore (rugby Union)
Declan Moore (born 15 September 1996) is a New Zealand-born, Australian rugby union player who plays for Irish United Rugby Championship club Ulster. He plays as a hooker. Born in New Zealand, Moore moved to Australia at a young age. He has played most of his senior rugby for Sydney University in the Shute Shield, also representing Sydney during the 2019 National Rugby Championship. Super Rugby club Melbourne Rebels selected Moore in their squad for the 2020 Super Rugby season and the 2020 Super Rugby AU season, but he made no appearances for the club during these competitions. Bulls (rugby Union)
The Bulls, for sponsorship reasons known as the Vodacom Bulls, is a South African professional rugby union team based in Pretoria and they play their home matches at Loftus Versfeld. They compete in the United Rugby Championship, having competed in the Super Rugby competition until 2020. Prior to 1998, the Bulls competed in the then- Super 12 as Northern Transvaal, as in those years South Africa was represented in the competition by its top four Currie Cup sides from the previous season, instead of the modern Super Rugby teams. Zebre Parma (, meaning "Zebras") are an Italian professional rugby union team competing in the United Rugby Championship and EPCR competitions from the 2012–13 season. They are based in Parma (Emilia-Romagna), Italy. They are operated by the Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) and replaced Aironi in the Pro12. Mick Kearney
Mick Kearney (born 29 March 1991) is an Irish rugby union player, currently playing for Irish side Ulster in the United Rugby Championship. His primary position is lock, though he has also played as a flanker. Career Club Kearney, who is originally from Dublin and attended Mount Temple Comprehensive School, joined Connacht in 2011. He had previously played for amateur club Clontarf and been part of the Leinster youth set-up, from schools to under-19's and Leinster colleges. He made his debut in a home match against Welsh side the Ospreys on 26 November that year, coming off the bench in a 17–6 loss. Neil Doak
Neil George Doak (born 21 June 1972) is a Northern Irish former cricketer and rugby union player. He currently works as a rugby union coach, and has served as attack and backs coach with English club side Worcester Warriors, and Georgia during the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup. Doak previously worked as attack and backs coach of Irish provincial side Ulster from 2008 to 2017, where he also spent his professional playing career. During his time with Ulster, he had brief stints as a coach with and Emerging Ireland. Rugby union Playing career Doak played at amateur level for four Irish clubs, all based in Ulster. Willie Faloon
Willie Faloon (born 30 September 1986) is a rugby union coach and former player from Northern Ireland. His main position was at flanker and he primarily played at openside. Since 2021, he has been an Elite Performance Development Officer with the Ulster Rugby academy. Career Ulster Faloon's professional team was his native province of Ulster, signing a contract with the side in December 2008. He had previously played for amateur side Ballynahinch in the All-Ireland League and was part of the province's academy system. Faloon played his first game for Ulster on 24 January 2009, in a 2008–09 Heineken Cup game with Stade Francais. Roddy Grant (rugby Union)
Roderick Robert Grant is a Scottish rugby union coach and former player. He played as a flanker for Border Reivers, Edinburgh and Scotland sevens between 2006 and 2015, and has coached at the Scottish Rugby Academy and Edinburgh. Since 2019, he has been forwards coach for Ulster. Early life Grant was born in Jwaneng, Botswana to Scottish parents and soon after moved to Cape Town, South Africa. Jared Payne
Jared Benjamin Payne (born 13 October 1985) is a retired rugby union centre who played for Ulster and the Ireland national team. He was a member of the 2017 British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand, but did not play a test match. Since his retirement from playing in 2018, he has been Ulster's defence coach, a position he is to leave at the end of the 2021-22 season. Payne was born in Tauranga, New Zealand, and represented New Zealand at U21 and 7s level, as well as captaining his provincial side Northland. He began his Super Rugby career with the Chiefs in 2007 before moving to the Crusaders in 2009. He made 22 appearances for the Crusaders over two seasons.
