The 2021–22 season is Rotherham United's 97th year in their history and first season back in League One since the 2019–20 season following relegation last season. Rotherham () is a large minster and market town in South Yorkshire, England. The town takes its name from the River Rother which then merges with the River Don. The River Don then flows through the town centre. It is the main settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. Rotherham is also the third largest settlement in South Yorkshire after Sheffield and Doncaster, which it is located between. Traditional industries included glass making and flour milling. Most around the time of the industrial revolution, it was also known as a coal mining town as well as a contributor to the steel industry. The town's historic county is Yorkshire. Joseph William Mattock (born 15 May 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a left-back for EFL League Two club Harrogate Town. Mattock is a graduate of the Leicester City youth academy and has also represented England youth teams at nearly every level. Shane Kevin Ferguson (born 12 July 1991) is a Northern Irish professional footballer who plays for Rotherham United and the Northern Ireland national team. Mickel Carlos Miller (born 2 December 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for club Plymouth Argyle.
