2021–22 New Mexico Lobos Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team represented the University of New Mexico during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Lobos were led by first-year head coach Richard Pitino and played their home games at The Pit as members of the Mountain West Conference. Previous season In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Lobos finished the 2021–21 season 6–16, 2–15 in Mountain West play to finish in last place. In the Mountain West tournament, they lost in the first round to Fresno State. Prior to the end of the season, the school announced that Paul Weir would not return as head coach. On March 16, 2021, the school named former Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino the team's new head coach. Richard Pitino
Richard William Pitino (born September 16, 1982) is an American college basketball coach. He is currently the head coach of the New Mexico Lobos men's basketball team. From 2013 to 2021, he was head coach of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers men's basketball team. He is the son of Iona head coach Rick Pitino. After attending St. Sebastian's School in Needham, Massachusetts, Richard Pitino earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at Providence College in 2005. During his time at Providence, Pitino was the manager for the Friars men's basketball team under Tim Welsh. For two years, he also served as an assistant basketball coach for Saint Andrew's School in nearby Barrington, Rhode Island. Kurt Wegscheider
Kurt-Curry Axel Wegscheider (born 30 May 2001) is a Central African basketball playrer for Bangui Sporting Club of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He played college basketball for New Mexico, USU Eastern and Lubbock Christian. Early life Wegscheider was born in Bangui to a German father of French origin, and his mother was a former professional basketball player in the Central African Republic. After playing association football first, Wegscheider picked up basketball at age five. At age 14, he joined the NBA Academy Africa in Senegal where he played five years. He also played in the Basketball Without Borders program and was named MVP of the all-star game. College career Starting from the 2019–20 season, Wegscheider joined the New Mexico program. Knightdale is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, Knightdale has a population of 19,435. That's up from 11, 401 in 2010 . Shelton State Community College is a public community college in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
