Kurt Wegscheider
Kurt-Curry Axel Wegscheider (born 30 May 2001) is a Central African basketball playrer for Bangui Sporting Club of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). He played college basketball for New Mexico, USU Eastern and Lubbock Christian. Early life Wegscheider was born in Bangui to a German father of French origin, and his mother was a former professional basketball player in the Central African Republic. After playing association football first, Wegscheider picked up basketball at age five. At age 14, he joined the NBA Academy Africa in Senegal where he played five years. He also played in the Basketball Without Borders program and was named MVP of the all-star game. College career Starting from the 2019–20 season, Wegscheider joined the New Mexico program. From 2021, he played for the USU Eastern, averaging 14.4 points and 4.3 rebounds in his only season with the Golden Eagles. The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the five Basketball positions, positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position. Lubbock Christian University (LCU) is a private Christian university associated with the Churches of Christ and located in Lubbock, Texas. Chartered originally as part of a grade school called Lubbock Christian School in 1954, the institution branched off as a junior college – Lubbock Christian College – in 1957. FIBA AfroBasket 2021 was the 30th edition of the FIBA AfroBasket, a men's basketball continental championship of Africa. The tournament was hosted by Rwanda for the first time. It was originally scheduled to take place between 17 and 29 August 2021, but it was moved back a week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to 24 August to 5 September 2021. The tournament featured 16 teams, with South Sudan debuting at the AfroBasket stage. Tunisia was the defending champion, having won the 2017 tournament and they defended their title with a final win over Ivory Coast, while Senegal won the bronze medal. Host selection In June 2019, FIBA Africa announced that Rwanda hosts the 2021 FIBA AfroBasket outbesting the bids of Senegal, Ivory Coast, and DR Congo. Central African Republic National Basketball Team
The Central African Republic national basketball team is administered by the Fédération Centrafricaine de Basketball. The team won the African Basketball Championship twice. It became the first Sub-Saharan African team to qualify for the Basketball World Cup. Achievements The Central African Republic has won the African Championship twice. Their first title came in 1974 when they hosted the tournament and beat Senegal 72–67 in the final. They hoisted the trophy again in 1987 by defeating Egypt 94–87 for the championship.
