The 2021–22 season was MTK Budapest Football Club's 119th competitive season, 2nd consecutive season in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I and 133rd year in existence as a football club. In addition to the domestic league, MTK Budapest participated in this season's editions of the Magyar Kupa. MTK Budapest FC
Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre Budapest Futball Club or shortly MTK is a Hungarian football club based in Józsefváros, Budapest. The team currently plays in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II. The club's colours are blue and white. As one of the most successful Hungarian football clubs, MTK has won the Hungarian League 23 times and the Hungarian Cup 12 times. The club has also won the Hungarian Super Cup twice. In 1955, as ''Vörös Lobogó SE'', they became the first Hungarian team to play in the European Cup and in 1964 they finished as runners-up in the European Cup Winners' Cup after losing to Sporting Clube de Portugal in the final. The club founded the Sándor Károly Football Academy in 2001. The Academy also has a partnership agreement with English club Liverpool. Sebastián Herrera Cardona (born 23 January 1995) is a Colombian professional footballer who plays as a defender for Bosnian Premier League club Borac Banja Luka. Gheorghe "Gicu" Teodor Grozav (; born 29 September 1990) is a Romanian professional footballer who plays as a winger or an attacking midfielder for Liga I club Petrolul Ploiești. Club career Unirea Alba Iulia Grozav started his career at his hometown club Unirea Alba Iulia, playing his first match in the 2007–08 Liga II season. James Michael Weir (born 4 August 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder. Born in Preston, Lancashire, he began his career as a youth player with Preston North End and then joined the Manchester United academy. He only made one appearance for Manchester United before leaving for Hull City in 2016, but also failed to break into the first team there, and spent the second half of the 2016–17 season on loan to Wigan Athletic. After returning, his appearances for Hull were sporadic, and he left for Bolton Wanderers in 2019. Nikolai Aleksanteri Alho (born 12 March 1993) is a Finnish professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Super League Greece club Volos and the Finland national team.
