2021–22 MFA Elite Division
The 2021–22 MFA Elite Division was the 109th season of the MFA Elite Division, the top-tier football league in Mumbai, a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The 2020–21 season was called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The league format was restructured in 2018-19 season and two groups were formed. In 2021, the groups were renamed the MFA Elite Premier League and MFA Elite Corporate League. Aaditya Thackeray was re-elected president of the Mumbai Football Association. Mumbai City FC is considered Mumbai's premier club, having participated in the 2021–22 Indian Super League season and the 2022 AFC Champions League, while Kenkre FC was Mumbai's representative at the 2021–22 I-League. However, Mumbai City hasn't competed in the MFA Elite League since 2019 when their U-18 team was suspended for assaulting the assistant referee. The Mumbai Football League, also known as the Harwood League, is organised by Mumbai Football Association (MFA) as a ladder-based competition involving a total of five divisions and over 300 teams. It is the top football league in Mumbai and the second oldest football league in Asia after Calcutta Football League. The league was known as Hardwood League, named after Colonel Hardwood, who founded the Bombay Football Association and became first president. League structure Elite Division The ''MFA Elite Division'', formerly known as the ''MDFA Elite Division'', is the first tier of the Mumbai Football League competition. In March 2022, the MFA Elite Division was rechristened as the ''Harwood Premier League'', on the lines of the name that was once associated with the Mumbai's top division football stretching back to 1902. I-League 2nd Division
I-League 2, previously known as I-League 2nd Division and officially known as or Hero I-League 2 (for sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp), is an Indian men's professional football league. It is the 3rd tier of Indian football, behind Indian Super League and I-League. It operates as a system of promotion with I-League (final qualifying phase of state leagues teams). In 2020, due to COVID-19 pandemic in India, the league format was changed into I-League Qualifiers. To avoid confusion with I-League being the second tier, the league was renamed to I-League 2 by AIFF in 2022. The 2nd Division league was introduced from the 2008 season, having been previously known as the National Football League 2nd Division. State FA's nominate teams who have finished at the top of their respective state leagues (or passing the required criteria).
