2021–22 Lamar Lady Cardinals Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Lamar Lady Cardinals basketball team represented Lamar University during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Lady Cardinals, led by third-year head coach Aqua Franklin, played their home games at the Montagne Center in Beaumont, Texas as members of the Western Athletic Conference. This season was the Lady Cardinals' first and only as members of the Western Athletic Conference. Lamar was one of four schools, all from Texas, that left the Southland Conference in July 2021 to join the WAC. The Lady Cardinals finished the 2021–22 season with an overall record of 14–15 and 8–10 in conference play. The seventh-seeded Lady Cardinals won their WAC tournament opening-round game against tenth seed New Mexico State 65–54. Aqua Franklin
A'Quonesia Krashun Franklin (born September 29, 1985), also known as Aqua, is an American basketball coach and former player. She played two seasons in the WNBA. She was a three-year captain of the Texas A&M team from the 2005–06 to 2007–08 seasons. She received All-America honorable mention honors from the Associated Press two times, and has also received all- Big 12 honors. In May 2019, she was named the head coach of the Lamar University women's basketball team. Playing career Early years Born and raised in Tyler, Texas, Franklin attended John Tyler High School, where she earned first team all-state, first team All-East Texas, and first team all-regional honors as a senior. She earned district MVP honors both her junior and senior year. She was also named the East Texas MVP her senior years. Mineola is a city in the U.S. state of Texas in Wood County. It lies 26 miles north of Tyler. Its population was 4,823 at the 2020 census. The town was incorporated as the railroads arrived in 1873.
