2021–22 FIS Snowboard World Cup
The 2020–21 FIS Snowboard World Cup is the 28th World Cup season in snowboarding organised by International Ski Federation. The season started on 23 October 2021 and will conclude on 27 March 2022. Competitions consist of parallel slalom, parallel giant slalom, snowboard cross, halfpipe, slopestyle and big air. On 1 March 2022, following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine On 24 February 2022, in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014. Lee Sang-ho (born 12 September 1995) is a South Korean Snowboarding, snowboarder who competes internationally. FIS Snowboard World Cup
The FIS Snowboard World Cup is an annual snowboarding competition, arranged by the International Ski Federation (FIS) since 1994. Since its inauguration, different disciplines have been added and removed, along with categories used to group them. Currently disciplines contested in the World Cup are: ''Parallel Giant Slalom'' and ''Parallel Slalom'' (grouped into Parallel category), ''Halfpipe'', ''Big Air'' and ''Slopestyle'' (grouped into AFU category) and the discipline-category of Snowboard Cross. Most of these disciplines have been contested on and off throughout the years. The only discipline contested in every season of the World Cup is the Halfpipe (and from 1996–97 season onward the Snowboard Cross). There was an Overall classification until the 2009–10 season. Montafon
Montafon ( in local dialect: "''Muntafu''") is a 39 km long valley in the westernmost Austrian federal state of Vorarlberg. It is traversed by the river Ill (Vorarlberg) and extends from the city of Bludenz and the Verwall Alps in the north, to the Silvretta and Rätikon mountain range in the south. Nick Baumgartner
Nick Baumgartner (born December 17, 1981) is an American snowboarder from Iron River, Michigan. He competes in snowboard cross (SBX) and qualified for the 2010 Winter Olympics. He won the gold and silver medals in the 2011 and 2012 Winter X Games. Baumgartner competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics and won his first Olympic gold at the age of 40 in the 2022 Winter Olympics when he and teammate Lindsey Jacobellis won the inaugural Olympic mixed snowboard cross race. Baumgartner began off-road racing in 2011, winning the Rookie of the Year "Stock Truck" award before advancing to Pro Light trucks in 2012. Omar Visintin
Omar Visintin (born 22 October 1989) is an Italian snowboarder, specializing in snowboard cross, for which he won a silver and a bronze medal for at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Visintin competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for Italy. In the snowboard cross, he finished 2nd in his 1/8 round race, then 2nd in his quarterfinal. However, he did not finish his semifinal and did not start the small final, finishing 12th overall. As of September 2014, his best showing at the World Championships is 22nd, in the 2013 snowboard cross. Visintin made his World Cup debut in March 2008. Alessandro Hämmerle (born 30 July 1993) is a Swiss-born Austrian snowboarder, and Olympic gold medalist in the snowboard cross. Hämmerle competed at the 2014 Winter Olympics for Austria. In the snowboard cross, he finished 2nd in his 1/8 round race, advancing to the quarter-finals, where he placed 5th, not advancing, and ending up 17th overall. As of September 2014, his best showing at the World Championships was 6th, in the 2013 snowboard cross. Hämmerle made his World Cup debut in December 2010. As of September 2014, he had one World Cup victory, coming at Sochi in 2012–13. His best overall finish was 4th in 2012–13. Big Air
Big air is a high-injury-risk sports discipline where the competitor rides a vehicle, such as a motocross motorcycle, a skateboard, a snowboard, or a pair of skis, down a hill or ramp and performs aerial tricks after launching off very large jumps. In most versions, there is one large jump and therefore only one opportunity to perform a trick. It is an extreme version of slopestyle. Competitors perform complex tricks in the air, aiming to attain sizable height and distance as well, all while making every effort to secure a clean landing. Many competitions also require the rider to do a specific trick to win the major prize. The term was coined by French-Canadians because of their love for the extreme nature of the event. Slopestyle
Slopestyle is a winter sport in which athletes ski or snowboard down a course including a variety of obstacles including rails, jumps and other terrain park features. Points are scored for amplitude, originality and quality of tricks. The discipline has its roots in action sports like skateboarding and BMX and has very successfully crossed over into the snow sports worlds of skiing and snowboarding. Skiers use Twin-tip skis for their symmetry since they often go large portions of the course backward (referred to as "switch") and for their balanced weight so as to not destabilize spins. Slopestyle tricks fall mainly into four categories: spins, grinds, grabs and flips, and most tricks done in competition are a combination of these. Half-pipe
A half-pipe is a structure used in gravity extreme sports such as snowboarding, skateboarding, skiing, freestyle BMX, skating, and scooter riding. Overview The structure resembles a cross-section of a swimming pool, essentially two concave ramps (or quarter-pipes), topped by copings and decks, facing each other across a flat transition, also known as a ''tranny''. Originally half-pipes were half sections of a large diameter pipe. Since the 1980s, half-pipes contain an extended ''flat bottom'' between the quarter-pipes. The original style half-pipes are no longer built. Flat ground provides time to regain balance after landing and more time to prepare for the next trick.
