2021 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series
The 2021 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series was a planned series of rugby sevens tournaments for national women's rugby sevens teams that was cancelled due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of an official season of the Women's Sevens Series, two invitational "Fast Four" tournaments were played in Canada. 2019–20 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series
The 2019–20 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series was the eighth edition of the global circuit for women's national rugby sevens teams, organised by World Rugby. Only five of the originally scheduled eight tournaments were completed before the series was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. New Zealand was awarded the series title at the end of June 2020, leading by 16 points over second-placed Australia. The events planned for Hong Kong, Langford and Paris were postponed, before eventually being cancelled. Format Twelve nations competed at each event, drawn into three pools of four teams. The top-placed teams after the pool matches at each tournament played off for a Cup, with gold, silver and bronze medals also awarded to the first three teams. The 2021–22 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series was the ninth edition of the global circuit for women's national rugby sevens teams, organised by World Rugby. The ninth edition was meant to be played a year earlier, but the 2021 Series was cancelled due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Australia won the series at the second-last event in Canada, winning four out of the six events on the tour to claim their third World Series title. France, Fiji and Ireland placed second, third and fourth, respectively, which was the best finish achieved by all three teams in the World Series. World Rugby Women's Sevens Series
The World Rugby Women's Sevens Series, is a series of international rugby sevens tournaments for women's national teams run by World Rugby. The inaugural series was held in 2012–13 as the successor to the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup held the previous season. The competition has been sponsored by banking group HSBC since 2015. The series, the women's counterpart to the World Rugby Sevens Series, provides elite-level women's competition between rugby nations. 2021 Canada Women's Sevens
The 2021 Canada Women's Sevens was held as two "Fast Four" invitational rugby sevens events on consecutive weekends in late September that year. The first was hosted at BC Place in Vancouver and the second at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. These tournaments, which featured four national women's teams, were played as the sixth season of the Canada Women's Sevens but were not part of the cancelled 2021 World Rugby Women's Sevens Series. Commonwealth Stadium is an open-air, multipurpose stadium located in the McCauley neighbourhood of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The 2021 World Rugby Sevens Series was the 22nd annual series of rugby sevens tournaments for national men's rugby sevens teams. The World Rugby Sevens Series, Sevens Series has been run by World Rugby since 1999. Due to Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sports#Rugby union, impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, only two tournaments were played in the 2021 series instead of the usual ten. Rugby Sevens At The 2020 Summer Olympics
Rugby sevens at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 26 July to 31 July 2021 at the Tokyo Stadium. 24 teams (12 each for men and women) competed in the tournament. The dates were modified due to the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 games as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Competition The men's and women's rugby sevens competitions took place at Tokyo Stadium, a 2019 Rugby World Cup host venue. The men's sessions took place July 26–28 with the women's sessions happening July 29–31, 2021. Changes In a reverse to the 2016 schedule, the men's competition was played first over three days from July 27–29 with the women's competition taking place from July 30 through August 1 and culminating with the gold medal session.
