2021 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 2021 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships were held in Kitakyushu, Japan from October 18–24, 2021. The competition took place at the Kitakyushu City General Gymnasium. It was the third time that Japan hosted the event, following the 1995 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, 1995 and 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, 2011 editions. The competition was originally scheduled to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, before the Danish Gymnastics Federation withdrew from hosting in July 2020. In November 2020, the International Gymnastics Federation, Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique announced Kitakyushu as the replacement host city for the same dates. Although the World Championships are traditionally not held in Olympic years, the postponement of the 2020 Summer Olympics caused the 2021 event to fall during the same year. World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships are the world championships for artistic gymnastics governed by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). The first edition of the championships was held in 1903, exclusively for male gymnasts. Since the tenth edition of the tournament, in 1934, women's events are held together with men's events. The FIG was founded in 1881 and was originally entitled FEG (Fédération Européenne de Gymnastique), but changed its name in 1921, becoming the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG); this name change roughly correlates with the actual naming of the World Championships. Although the first such games were held in 1903, they were not initially entitled the 'World Championships'. Rings (gymnastics)
The rings, also known as still rings (in contrast to flying rings), is an artistic gymnastics apparatus and the event that uses it. It is traditionally used only by male gymnasts, due to its extreme upper body strength requirements. Gymnasts often wear ring grips while performing. The apparatus The apparatus consists of two rings that hang freely from a rigid metal frame. Each ring is supported by a strap, which in turn connects to a steel cable that is suspended from the metal frame. The gymnast, who grips one ring with each hand, must control the movement of the rings and his or her body movements at all times. Stephen Nedoroscik
Stephen Nedoroscik (born October 28, 1998) is an American artistic gymnast who specializes on the pommel horse. He is the 2021 World Champion and a two-time NCAA National Champion on the event. He is a member of the United States men's national gymnastics team. Personal life Nedoroscik was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on October 28, 1998, to Cheryl and John Nedoroscik. He began gymnastics in 2003. Gymnastics career As a young gymnast Nedoroscik competed on all apparatuses. Around the time he was in high school he noticed that he was only progressing on pommel horse and decided to specialize in that event. In 2015 and 2016 he won the Junior Olympic National title on pommel horse. Emil Soravuo
Emil Soravuo (born 28 March 1997) is a Finnish artistic gymnast and the 2021 bronze medalist in floor exercise. In 2019, he won the gold medal in the men's floor exercise event at the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus. In 2014, he represented Finland at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics held in Nanjing, China without winning a medal. In March 2017 he completed his military service at the Armed Forces Military School, where he trained in gymnastics in the evenings. "I actually did really well in the army. Kazuki Minami (born 24 January 2000) is a Japanese artistic gymnast. He turned senior in 2019 and became the 2019 World Cup gold medalist on Floor Exercise at Cottbus and Paris. Nicola Bartolini
Nicola Bartolini (born 7 February 1996) is an Italian artistic gymnast. He is the 2021 World Champion and 2021 European bronze medalist on floor exercise. Bartolini's early career was plagued with injury as a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery made him unable to compete at the 2016 Olympic Games. Gymnastics career 2014 Bartolini competed at the 2014 European Championships in the junior division. He helped Italy finish fifth as a team and individually he finished eighth in the all-around and on floor exercise and fifth on vault. Bartolini competed at the 2014 World Championships where he helped Italy finish 13th as a team during qualifications. Illia Kovtun
Illia Yuriyovych Kovtun ( uk, Ілля Юрійович Ковтун; born 10 August 2003) is a Ukrainian artistic gymnast who competed at the 2020 Olympic Games. He is the 2021 World and European all-around bronze medalist, and is a two-time junior world championships medalist. Gymnastics career Junior 2018 Kovtun competed at the 2018 European Championships where he helped Ukraine finish fifth in the team finals. Individually he won the junior title on the parallel bars. 2019 Kovtun competed at the Stella Zakharova Cup where he placed first in the junior all-around division. is a Japan men's national gymnastics team, Japanese artistic gymnast. Balance Beam
The balance beam is a rectangular artistic gymnastics apparatus and an event performed using the apparatus. Both the apparatus and the event are sometimes simply referred to as "beam". The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is BB. The beam is a small, thin beam which is typically raised from the floor on a leg or stand at both ends. The balance beam is only performed competitively by female gymnasts. Beams are usually covered with leather-like material and are only four inches wide. Horizontal Bar
The horizontal bar, also known as the high bar, is an apparatus used by male gymnasts in artistic gymnastics. It traditionally consists of a cylindrical metal (typically steel) bar that is rigidly held above and parallel to the floor by a system of cables and stiff vertical supports. Gymnasts typically wear suede leather grips while performing on the bar. Current elite-level competition uses a stainless steel core rail. The gymnastics elements performed on the horizontal bar are regulated by a Code of Points.
