2021 Tacoma Defiance Season
The 2021 Tacoma Defiance season was the seventh season of the Tacoma Defiance, an American soccer team that played in the USL Championship, the second tier of soccer in the country. It was the fourth season since the club was renamed from Seattle Sounders FC 2 and relocated to Tacoma, Washington. Defiance is majority owned by Seattle Sounders FC, a Major League Soccer team, and serves as their reserve and development squad. Tacoma Defiance
Tacoma Defiance, formerly Seattle Sounders FC 2, is an American professional soccer team based in Tacoma, Washington, U.S. that competes in the MLS Next Pro, the third tier of the national soccer pyramid, as the reserve team of Seattle Sounders FC. The Defiance is operated by The Baseball Club of Tacoma (operator/owner of the Tacoma Rainiers) and managed by Seattle Sounders FC, while 20 percent of the club is fan-owned through the non-profit Sounders Community Trust. The club was established in 2014 as Seattle Sounders FC 2 (S2) and originally played at Starfire Sports in Tukwila, Washington. The team moved to Tacoma's Cheney Stadium in 2018 and was rebranded as the Defiance the following season. Starfire Sports is a multi-purpose stadium and sporting facility in Tukwila, Washington, United States. It is located on the banks of the Green River, just south of Seattle. The stadium is operated by the nonprofit corporation Starfire Sports and is home to several soccer and rugby teams. At the time of its opening, CEO Chris Slatt claimed it was "the largest synthetic-turf soccer complex in the U.S." The MLS team Seattle Sounders FC has offices and training facilities at the complex, and stages Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches at the main stadium. Dignity Health Sports Park is a multi-use sports complex located on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. The complex consists of the 27,000-seat Dignity Health Sports Park soccer stadium, the Dignity Health Sports Park tennis stadium, a track-and-field facility, and the VELO Sports Center velodrome. Abdoulaye "AB" Cissoko (born 27 December 1999) is a French professional footballer who currently plays for MLS side Seattle Sounders FC. Career Cissoko appeared for his local side Les Ulis, playing in the French Championnat National 3, in both 2018 and 2019. Obed Gomez Vargas (born August 5, 2005) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders FC. Club career Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Vargas began his career with Cook Inlet Soccer Club before moving to Washington and joining the youth academy for Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders FC. Taylor Thomas Mueller (born September 20, 1988 in Kirkland, Washington) is a retired American soccer player.
