2021 Euro Super Series
The 2021 Euro Super Series was a curling event among various countries of Europe. It was held from 31 August to 5 September at the National Curling Academy in Stirling, Scotland. It was the first international competition hosted by the club, which serves as the home club for the top British curlers. The total purse for the event was £6,000 on both the men's and women's sides. Team Yannick Schwaller of Bern, Switzerland won the men's event, defeating the Scottish rink of Ross Whyte from Stirling 5–4 in the final. In a tie game after six ends, Schwaller took a pivotal two points in the seventh, with Whyte only able to reply with one in the eighth and final end. It was Team Schwaller's second win of the 2021–22 curling season, as they had won the 2021 Baden Masters the week before. Curling Competitions In Switzerland
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. Martin Rios
Martin Rios (born 24 May 1981) is a Spanish-Swiss curler. He competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics in the mixed doubles tournament with partner Jenny Perret, winning a silver medal. He is two-time (2012, 2017) World Mixed Doubles Champion and 2011 European Mixed Champion. At the 2012 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship he was partnered with Nadine Lehmann and at the 2017 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship he was paired with Perret. Rios also won a bronze medal at the 2014 European Mixed Curling Championship. Marcel Käufeler
Marcel Käufeler (born 19 January 1994 in Wettingen, Switzerland) is a retired Swiss curler. Career Käufeler joined the Yannick Schwaller rink at lead for the 2016–17 season. The team also included Romano Meier at third and Reto Keller at second. The team did not have very much success in their first season together and the teams second Reto Keller was replaced Käufeler's junior skip Michael Brunner for the 2017–18 season. Team Schwaller won their first tour event at the 2017 Qinghai International, losing only one game en route to claiming the title. They also reached the finals of both the DeKalb Superspiel and the Aberdeen International Curling Championship as well as the semifinals of the Oakville Fall Classic and the German Masters. Romano Meier (born 14 April 1995 in Baden) is a Swiss curler from Ehrendingen. He currently plays second on Team Michael Brunner. Career Juniors In 2012, Meier represented Switzerland for the first time internationally at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics. The team also included Michael Brunner, Elena Stern and Lisa Gisler. The team finished the round robin with a 6–1 record and then won all three of their playoff games to secure the gold medal. Meier was a member of the Swiss junior men's team, skipped by Yannick Schwaller, at three straight World Junior Curling Championships. In 2014, his team of Schwaller, Reto Keller, Patrick Witschonke and Michael Probst led Switzerland to a 6–3 round robin record. Sven Michel (born 30 March 1988) is a Swiss curler from Matten. He won a gold medal for Switzerland at the 2013 European Curling Championships and skipped Switzerland at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Career As a junior curler, Michel won the bronze medal at the 2007 World Junior Curling Championships, playing third for Christian von Gunten. Michel won a silver medal at the 2010 European Mixed Curling Championship, playing second for Claudio Pätz. Later in the season, he and partner Alina Pätz won the gold medal at the 2011 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship. Michel would then become one of the top skips in Switzerland, and would represent his country at the 2011 and 2012 European Curling Championships as skip. 2021 World Men's Curling Championship
The 2021 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as the 2021 BKT Tires & OK Tire World Men's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from April 2 to 11 at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Canada. The event was originally to be held in Ottawa, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the championship was moved to Calgary. The event was held in a bio-secure bubble at Canada Olympic Park, which also hosted all major Curling Canada championships leading up to the Worlds (including the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier, which determined Canada's entrant). All events were held behind closed doors with no spectators. The 2021 championship fielded the largest number of teams in the history of the event, with fourteen total.
