2021 Swedish Government Formation
Prime Minister Stefan Löfven tendered his resignation on 10 November 2021, leaving his government in place as a caretaker cabinet until a new Prime Minister is elected by the Riksdag. Government formation talks commenced the following day with Magdalena Andersson, the newly-elected head of the Social Democratic party offering to lead a government. She was formally nominated to form a government by the Speaker of the Riksdag, Andreas Norlén later the same day. It was the third government formation process since the 2018 general election, the first taking a record 144 days before the formation of Löfven's second cabinet. The process took place just ten months ahead of the 2022 general election. Stefan Löfven
Kjell Stefan Löfven (; officially ''Löfvén''; born 21 July 1957) is a Swedish politician who serves as the Party of European Socialists, President of European Socialists since October 2022. He previously served as Prime Minister of Sweden from October 2014 to November 2021 and Leader of the Swedish Social Democratic Party, leader of the Social Democratic Party from 2012 to 2021. After leaving school and completing Conscription in Sweden, military service in the Swedish Air Force, Löfven trained as a welder and began employment as a metalworker. Jimmie Åkesson
Per Jimmie Åkesson (; born 17 May 1979) is a Swedish politician and author, serving as leader of the Sweden Democrats since 2005. He has been a member of the Riksdag (SD) for Jönköping County since 2010. He previously served as leader of the Sweden Democratic Youth from 2000 until 2005. A hung parliament is a term used in legislatures primarily under the Westminster system to describe a situation in which no single political party or pre-existing coalition (also known as an alliance or bloc) has an absolute majority of legislators (commonly known as members or seats) in a parliament or other legislature. Per Bolund (born 3 July 1971) is a Swedish politician for the Green Party. He served as Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden (in a strictly ceremonial role) and as Minister for the Environment from February to November 2021, and has been co-spokesperson of the Green Party since May 2019. He previously served as Minister for Financial Markets from October 2014 to February 2021 and as Minister for Housing from January 2019 to February 2021. Nyamko Ana Sabuni (born 31 March 1969) is a Swedish politician who was Leader of the Liberals between June 2019 and April 2022. She previously served as Minister for Integration from 2006 to 2010 and as Minister for Gender Equality from 2006 to 2013 in the Swedish government. A member of the Liberal Party, Sabuni was elected a Member of Parliament in 2002.
