2021 Shiyan Pipeline Explosion
On 13 June 2021 a gas explosion took place at about 6:30 a.m. local time in Yanhu Community, Checheng Road Subdistrict, Zhangwan District, Shiyan, Hubei in a market, which then collapsed. Locals who were buying vegetables or having breakfast at the market were trapped by the explosion. The explosion resulted in 25 deaths and 138 injuries (including 37 serious injuries). Accident At 6:30 a.m. a gas line exploded near a vegetable market killing 25 and injuring 138. 173 firefighters rescued 150 from building severely damaged by the blast. Shiyan
Shiyan () is a prefecture-level city in northwestern Hubei, China, bordering Henan to the northeast, Chongqing to the southwest, and Shaanxi to the north and west. Zhangwan District
Zhangwan District () is a district of the city of Shiyan, Hubei, People's Republic of China. History Human activity in the area can be traced back to approximately 5000 BCE on the banks of the Du River. The area belonged to the Chu State during its existence. The area later belonged to the Qin Dynasty. The area was incorporated under the Jin Dynasty as Weiyang County (). During the Sui Dynasty and the early Tang Dynasty, the area was incorporated as Duyang County (). In 627 CE, the county was dissolved and replaced by Yunxiang County (). Yunxiang County would itself be dissolved in 1277 under the Southern Song, and replaced by Yun County ().
