2021 National Party Of Australia Leadership Spill
A leadership spill for the federal leadership of the National Party of Australia was held on 21 June 2021, and was called by the Senator for Queensland, Matt Canavan. Following the spill in the regularly scheduled party room meeting, the incumbent Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals leader Michael McCormack was defeated by his predecessor Barnaby Joyce, who assumed the former's position as leader and Deputy Prime Minister. The Nationals do not officially release the results of party leadership elections. The spill was called amid reports that Joyce was considering a challenge against McCormack for the second time in two years. Pat Conaghan
Patrick John Conaghan (born 31 January 1971) is an Australian politician. He has been a member of the House of Representatives for Cowper in New South Wales, representing the Nationals since 2019. Early career Conaghan was born in Kempsey, New South Wales. Prior to entering federal politics, he worked as a police officer in Kempsey before being transferred to Sydney as a detective and later on as a police prosecutor. The Division of Page is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. History The division is named after the Right Honourable Sir Earle Page, the second leader of the Country Party of Australia and the Prime Minister of Australia after the death of Joseph Lyons in 1939. Kevin John Hogan (born 11 August 1963) is an Australian politician. He has been a Nationals member of the Australian House of Representatives, representing the Division of Page in New South Wales, since September 2013. Early life Hogan was born in Port Augusta in regional South Australia. After completing a Bachelor of Economics at Flinders University in 1984, he began a career in finance. He moved to Sydney and worked for an official money market dealer, GIO Securities, dealing with the Reserve Bank of Australia on a daily basis.
