2021 Mexican League Season
The 2021 Mexican League season was the 96th season in the history of the Mexican League. The league was contested by 18 teams, evenly divided in North and South zones. The season started on 20 May with the series between Sultanes de Monterrey and Acereros de Monclova and ended on 15 September with the last game of the Serie del Rey, where Toros de Tijuana defeated Leones de Yucatán to win the championship. Two new teams joined the league for this season: Mariachis de Guadalajara and El Águila de Veracruz. Mexican League
The Mexican League (, ) is a professional baseball league based in Mexico and the oldest running professional league in the country. The league has 18 teams organized in two divisions, North and South. Teams play 114 games each season. Five teams in each division advance to a four-round postseason tournament that culminates in the Serie del Rey, a best-of-seven championship series between the two division champions. The Mexican League has two affiliated minor leagues, the Liga Norte de México and Mexican Academy League. Though founded in 1925, the league joined the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues ( Minor League Baseball) in 1955, when it was designated a Double-A league. Some member teams entered player development contracts with teams in the National League at that time. Triple-A classification was granted in 1967. Tigres De Quintana Roo
The Quintana Roo Tigers (), formerly known as the Mexico (City) Tigers () are a professional baseball team in the Mexican League based in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. The team is part of the Southern Division (). The team has won twelve championships to date: 1955, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1992, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2011, 2013, and 2015. The Tigres were founded in Mexico City in 1955 and played there through the 2006 season. The team was founded by industrial businessman Alejo Peralta, and was long owned by his son, Carlos Peralta. The team was purchased by an ownership group including Major League Baseball All-Star pitcher Fernando Valenzuela in 2017. Parque Kukulcán Alamo (Kukulcán Alamo Park) is a stadium located in the city of Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú (English: ''Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium'') is the home baseball stadium of the Red Devils of Mexico (Diablos Rojos del México) in Mexico City, inaugurated on March 23, 2019. With a capacity of 20,576 seats, it became the first stadium built in the city in the last 50 years. Estadio Chevron (formerly known as Estadio Nacional de Tijuana, Estadio de Beisbol Calimax, and Estadio Gasmart) is a baseball stadium located in Tijuana, Baja California, in Mexico with a capacity of 17,000, all seated. It was built in 1976 with a capacity of 14,000 and named Cerro Colorado Stadium, after a supermarket chain based in Baja California. It was expanded in 2006 to its current capacity of 17,000. Estadio Revolución
Estadio de la Revolución is a sports arena located near the downtown area of Torreón in Coahuila, Mexico. It has a seating capacity of 7,689. Though used mainly for baseball games, it sometimes hosts concerts and other non-sport events. It is the home field of the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna baseball team, and as such, it is the oldest professional baseball field in Mexico still in function. Since it was originally constructed as a multi sport stadium and featured a running track the Estadio de la Revolución features the largest foul territory of any ball park within the Mexican League, the area of the former running track. The stadium is named to commemorate the Mexican Revolution of 1910–1920, a political change that was still recent at the time of the venue's opening on 15 September 1932. Serie Del Rey
The Serie del Rey () is the annual championship series of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol to determine a champion at the end of each season since 1970. The champions from each division, Norte and Sur (), compete in a best-of-seven series, with the winner being awarded the Copa de Zaachila. Previously, the league champion was the winner of the most games in a round robin tournament. The series is named in reference to baseball being called the king of sports. The Diablos Rojos del México have played in 33 series and won 16 championships, the most of any teams, followed by the Quintana Roo Tigres who have played in 16 and won 12 and the Sultanes de Monterrey who have played in 15 and won 10.
