2021 Marshall Thundering Herd Football Team
The 2021 Marshall Thundering Herd football team represented Marshall University during the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Thundering Herd played their home games at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, West Virginia, and competed in the East Division of Conference USA (CUSA). The team was coached by first-year head coach Charles Huff. On October 29, 2021, Marshall announced that this will be the last season for the team in the C-USA and become the Sun Belt Conference in July 1, 2022. Previous season The Thundering Herd finished the 2020 regular season 7–3 and 4–1 in C–USA play to finish in first in the East Division. They competed in the conference championship game and the Camellia Bowl, which the team lost in both to end the season. Charles Huff (American Football)
Charles Huff Jr. (born April 26, 1983) is an American football coach who is currently the head football coach at Marshall University. Prior to Marshall, he was the associate head coach and running backs coach at the University of Alabama. A coach with stints at Mississippi State and Penn State, he has gained the reputation of being one of the top recruiters in college football. Playing career Huff played at Hampton University, joining the football team as a walk-on fullback. In addition to fullback, he also spent time at tight end and guard before being named the starting center. He was named a team captain his senior season in addition to being the starting center. Coaching career Huff got his first coaching job at Tennessee State in 2006 working under Tigers offensive coordinator Fred Kaiss, who he played under at Hampton. The 2021 Old Dominion Monarchs football team represented Old Dominion University during the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Monarchs played their home games at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia, and competed in the East Division of Conference USA (CUSA). The team were coached by second-year head coach Ricky Rahne. On October 27, 2021, Old Dominion announced that this would be the last season for the team in the C-USA and become the Sun Belt Conference on July 1, 2022.
