2021 Leeds City Council Election
The 2021 Leeds City Council election took place on Thursday 6 May 2021 to elect members of Leeds City Council in England. It was held on the same day as other local elections across England and the rest of the UK, including the inaugural West Yorkshire mayoral election. The election was originally scheduled for 7 May 2020, alongside the later cancelled 2020 West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner election and other local elections across the UK, but was delayed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As per the election cycle, both one third of the council's 99 seats and an additional casual vacancy in Roundhay ward were contested. Following the postponement of the original election in 2020, the incumbent councillors' terms have been extended for an additional year to their initial two-year term granted in 2018. 2019 Leeds City Council Election
The 2019 Leeds City Council election took place on Thursday 2 May 2019 to elect members of Leeds City Council in England. It was held on the same day as other UK local elections across England and Northern Ireland. As per the election cycle, one third of the council's 99 seats were up for election. This followed the re-election of all of the 99 council seats in the 2018 all-out council election. It had resulted from an electoral ward boundary review and saw the election of three councillors for each of the 33 electoral wards and their new ward boundaries. The third-placed candidate elected in every ward was granted a single year term and their seats are up for election this year. 2002 Leeds City Council Election
The Leeds City Council election took place on 2 May 2002 to elect members of City of Leeds Metropolitan Borough Council in West Yorkshire, England. Prior to the election, there had been 2000 Leeds City Council election#By-elections between 2000 and 2002, several by-elections held with no change to the council composition. One third of the council was up for election and the Labour Party (UK), Labour party stayed in overall control of the council. 1996 Leeds City Council Election
The Leeds City Council elections were held on Thursday, 2 May 1996, with a third of the council up for election. The Conservatives suffered another routing, although with a less impressive Labour vote and a slight recovery in their own vote, were able to hold on to three seats. Labour furthered their stranglehold on the council with an additional seven gains, with all but Burmantofts (Liberal Democrat) and Pudsey South (Independent) from the Tories. As a result of the gains, those two wards - along with the Tory losses of Aireborough, Halton, Morley North and Weetwood wards - were now represented entirely by Labour (a first for most). The other Labour gain was snatching the remaining Tory seat in the former Tory-Liberal battleground of Otley & Wharfedale. Judith Blake
Judith Vivienne Blake, Baroness Blake of Leeds (born 23 July 1953, née Parsons) is a British Labour politician serving as a life peer in the House of Lords since 2021. She serves on the opposition front bench as a Shadow Spokesperson for Housing, Communities and Local Government and an Opposition Whip. Blake served as the leader of Leeds City Council from 2015 to 2021, becoming the first woman to hold the position. Personal life Blake was born on 23 July 1953 into a Methodist family in Leeds. Both of her parents were doctors. She attended Leeds Girls High School until 1971 and then studied History at the University of Kent. After university, she began her career in education and social policy, living in London and then Birmingham in the 1980s. She taught English to refugees whilst living in Birmingham. The ''Yorkshire Evening Post'' is a daily evening publication (delivered to newsagents every morning) published by Yorkshire Post Newspapers in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The paper provides a regional slant on the day's news, and traditionally provides close reporting on Leeds United and Leeds Rhinos as well as the Yorkshire County Cricket Club team. The newspaper generally takes a liberal/centre left position. The House of Commons Library is the library and information resource of the lower house of the British Parliament. It was established in 1818, although its original 1828 construction was destroyed during the burning of Parliament in 1834.
