2021 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The 2021 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 127th staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board in 1887. The championship began on 2 October 2021 and ended on 7 November 2021. Ballyhale Shamrocks enetred the championship as the defending champions. Rower-Inistioge were relegated from the championship after being beaten in a playoff by Erin's Own. The final was played on 7 November 2021 at UPMC Nowlan Park in Kilkenny, between Ballyhale Shamrocks and O'Loughlin Gaels, in what was their first meeting in a final in five years. Ballyhale Shamrocks won the match by 3-19 to 3-15 to claim their 19th championship title overall and a fourth title in succession. T. J. Reid was the championship's top scorer with 1-31. Mark Bergin (born 28 April 1989) is an Irish hurler who is a former captain of the Kilkenny senior team. Bergin made his first appearance for the team during the 2012 National League, however, he remained as a peripheral figure outside of the starting fifteen. In spite of this he won a National League medal in his debut season. Ballyhale Shamrocks is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the parish of Ballyhale in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland. The club was founded in 1972 and is primarily concerned with the game of hurling. Ballyhale Shamrocks are the most successful club in the history of the All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship with eight titles. Hurling History Beginnings Gaelic Games had been played in the parish of Ballyhale long before the Shamrocks club was established. By the early 1970s there were two competing clubs in existence in the parish, Ballyhale and Knocktopher, however, they were both facing extinction. A third club, Knockmoylan, had ceased to exist at some time in 1959. Because of the situation facing both clubs they decided to amalgamate in 1972 under the new name of Ballyhale Shamrocks. O'Loughlin Gaels is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the St. John’s parish of Kilkenny city, County Kilkenny, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1969, replacing the St. John’s Hurling Club that started back in 1887. Clara GAA ( ga, CLG Chláraigh) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the small parish of Clara in County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club takes its name from Dicksboro townland, located next to Kilkenny Airport, the current ground is Palmerstown, to the west of the city.
