The 2021 Biathlon European Championships were held from 27 to 31 January 2021 in Duszniki-Zdrój, Poland. It was also a stage of the 2020–21 Biathlon IBU Cup. Schedule ''All times are local (UTC+1).'' Duszniki-Zdrój
Duszniki-Zdrój (; cs, Dušníky; german: Bad Reinerz), often simplified to Duszniki, is a spa town in Kłodzko Valley and Kłodzko County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in southwestern Poland. As of December 2021, the town has a population of 4,329. Situated on the Bystrzyca River, it attracts tourists from Poland and around the world. History The settlement was mentioned in 1324. It was granted town rights in 1346. Until 1595 it remained in private hands. A trade route connecting Silesia and Bohemia ran through the town, contributing to its development. Weaving and paper production developed, as well as the iron industry, but the local iron deposits quickly depleted. In 1584 a town hall was built, and in 1605 a paper mill, now housing the Museum of Papermaking in Duszniki-Zdrój, Museum of Papermaking. Anastasiya Merkushyna (Ukrainian: Анастасія Олегівна Меркушина; born 14 January 1995) is a Ukrainian Biathlon, biathlete. She is Biathlon World Championships, World Championships medalist. She participated at 2018 Winter Olympics. Career Her first international successes were medals at Junior World and European championships. Merkushyna is two-time bronze medalist in girls' individual at 2013 and 2016 Junior Worlds, Junior World and two-time silver medalist in relay, three-time Junior European champion and three-time European medalist. Sivert Guttorm Bakken
Sivert Guttorm Bakken (born 18 July 1998) is a Norwegian biathlete. He won the overall mass start title at the 2021–22 Biathlon World Cup. He also won his first world cup race the same year, in the 15 kilometer mass start in Oslo Holmenkollen, on 20 March 2022. After a successful 2021–2022 season, Bakken was unable to return to competition the following season due to a heart problem, pericarditis, that the Norwegian national team doctor determined was likely due to the coronavirus vaccine. He announced his intent to hopefully return during the 2023–2024 season, having resumed training, but has yet to have competed. Bakken is in a relationship with fellow biathlete Juni Arnekleiv. Emilie Ågheim Kalkenberg (born 6 July 1997) is a Norwegian biathlete who represents the Skonseng youth team. At the 2018 IBU Open European Championships, Kalkenberg won bronze in the mixed relay together with Kaia Wøien Nicolaisen Kaia Wøien Nicolaisen (born 23 November 1990) is a Norwegian biathlete. She was born in Trondheim, but represents the club Asker SK. Justus Strelow (born 30 December 1996) is a German biathlete. He made his Biathlon World Cup debut in 2021 in Östersund. At the Junior World Championships in Osrblie in 2017, he won with team Germany a bronze medal in the relay. Career He made his debut in the World Cup competition on 19 March 2021 in Östersund, taking 37th place in the sprint. Thus, he scored his first points in his debut. Anastasia Shevchenko (biathlete)
Anastasia Nukzarievna Shevchenko (russian: Анастасия Нукзариевна Шевченко; born 23 October 1979) is a Russian public figure and civil activist. She is the first person in Russia to have a criminal case brought against her on charges of participating in an "undesirable" organisation under Russian Federation law. She was recognised as a political prisoner and a prisoner of conscience. On 18 February 2021 Shevchenko was found guilty and received a suspended sentence of 4 years of imprisonment(later it was reduced to 3 years).
