2021 European Badminton Championships
The 2021 European Badminton Championships was the 28th tournament of the European Badminton Championships. It was held in Kyiv, Ukraine, from 27 April to 2 May 2021. Tournament The 2021 European Badminton Championships was the 28th edition of the championships. This tournament was organized by Badminton Europe along with the local organizer Ukrainian Badminton Federation and sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation. This tournament being played for the first time in Ukraine. The tournament consisted of men's (singles and doubles), women's (singles and doubles), and also mixed doubles. Venue The tournament was held at the Palace of Sports in Kyiv, Ukraine. Palace Of Sports, Kyiv
The Palace of Sports ( uk, Палац Спорту, ''Palats Sportu'') is an indoor sport-concert complex situated in the center of Kyiv, Ukraine. The complex is an independent state enterprise. History It was built between 1958 and 1960, to design of Mykhailo Hrechyna and Oleksiy Zavarov, as a major indoor sports arena and was opened on 9 December 1960. Constructivism Architecture, an artistic movement sporting mostly simple geometric forms was used in the design. In the first 50 years, the Sports Palace was the venue for 16 world championships, 28 European championships, 42 championships of the USSR and more than 4,000 concerts and theatre shows as stage performances. BWF World Tour
The BWF World Tour is a Grade 2 badminton tournament series, sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF). It is a competition open to the top world ranked players in singles (men's and women's) and doubles (men's, women's and mixed). The competition was announced on 19 March 2017 and came into effect starting from 2018, replacing the BWF Super Series, which was held from 2007 to 2017. The BWF World Tour are divided into six levels, namely World Tour Finals, Super 1000, Super 750, Super 500, and Super 300 in order (part of the HSBC World Tour). One other category of tournament, the BWF Tour Super 100 level, also offers ranking points. Chloe Birch
Chloe Francesca Hannah Birch (born 16 September 1995) is an English badminton player. She was introduced to badminton through school and started playing at age eight at Abbeydale Badminton Club. Birch received the Michael Vaughan Award from Silverdale School, and competed at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in 2013. She was the runner-up in 2016 English National Championships Women's singles. Birch was part of the English team that won the mixed team bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. She won the women's doubles silver medal at the 2019 European Games partnered with Lauren Smith. Birch graduated from Loughborough University with sport and exercise science degree. Chris Langridge
Christopher Phillip Langridge (born 2 May 1985) is a retired British badminton player. He competed for England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where he won three medals. He represented Great Britain at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and won a bronze medal in the men's doubles, partnered with Marcus Ellis. They also won gold medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2019 European Games. Early life and education Chris Langridge was born on 2 May 1985 in Epsom, Surrey. Langridge was educated at Therfield School, a state comprehensive school in the town of Leatherhead in Surrey in southern England. The school were twice National Schools champions. Langridge was introduced to badminton when he was ten by his teacher Jackie Cunningham who was a badminton coach of the county, and within 18 months at the age of twelve he made the England team. Marcus Ellis
Marcus Ellis (born 14 September 1989) is a British badminton player. He was the men's doubles champion in the English National Championships. Ellis and Chris Langridge won a bronze medal in the men's doubles at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, also gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. At the 2019 Minsk European Games, Ellis captured two gold medals; in the men's doubles with Langridge and in the mixed doubles event with Lauren Smith. Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (born 15 February 1989) is a Danish badminton player. He joined the Denmark national badminton team, Denmark winning team at the 2016 Thomas & Uber Cup, 2016 Thomas Cup in Kunshan, China, where he and his teammates beating Indonesia national badminton team, Indonesia 3–2 in the final. Kim Astrup Sørensen (born 6 March 1992) is a Danish badminton player. As junior player, he won the bronze medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships in the boys' doubles. He later won a gold in the mixed doubles and bronze medals in the boys' doubles and team events at the 2011 European Junior Championships. Marvin Emil Seidel (; born 9 November 1995) is a German badminton player. Mark Lamsfuß
Mark Lamsfuß (born 19 April 1994) is a German badminton player and plays for the BC Wipperfeld. He and his partner, Isabel Lohau won a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the 2022 BWF World Championships. Career Lamsfuß started playing badminton at aged 3, and in 2013 he won the Dutch Open Junior tournament in the mixed doubles event partnered with Franziska Volkmann. Kirsty Gilmour (born 21 September 1993) is a Scottish badminton player who has represented both Scotland and Great Britain. Career Gilmour won the silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, losing out to Michelle Li of Canada in the final and becoming the first Scottish player to reach the women's singles finals at the Commonwealth Games. Neslihan Yiğit
Neslihan Yiğit (born February 26, 1994) is a Turkish badminton player. The tall athlete plays right-handed and is coached by Çağatay Taşdemir at Egospor club of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. She won the women's singles title at the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games, 2013, 2018 Mediterranean Games and the women's doubles title at the 2013 Mediterranean Games. Line Drost Christophersen (born 14 January 2000) is a Danish badminton player. She once trained at the Skælskør club, and now belongs to Gentofte. Christophersen won the girls' singles title at the 2018 European Junior Championships, and the silver medal at the World Junior Championships, and then won a silver medal at the 2021 European Championships in the women's singles event.
