2021 Calabrian Regional Election
The 2021 Calabrian regional election took place in Calabria, Italy, on 3 and 4 October 2021, following the dissolution of the regional parliament after the death of regional president Jole Santelli. It was originally scheduled to take place on 14 February 2021, then on 11 April 2021, and was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy. Electoral system Even if a district list is linked to a regional list that exceeds 8% of the vote, the district list must obtain at least 4% of the vote in the whole region in order to elect their own representatives. To ensure governance, the candidate who receives the most votes wins a majority bonus of 55% of the seats. Regional Council Of Calabria
The Regional Council of Calabria (''Consiglio regionale della Calabria'') is one of the twenty Regional Councils of Italy. Geography The Regional Council represents the Calabria Region of Southern Italy. Calabria is located in the "toe" of the southwestern Italian Peninsula. Description The Regional Council of Calabria was established in 1970. It is based at the Palazzo Campanella in the city of Reggio Calabria. Composition The Regional Council of Calabria was originally composed of 40 regional councillors. The number of regional councillors increased to 42 in the 1995 regional election, to 43 in the 2000 regional election and finally to 50 in the 2005 regional election. Following the decree-law n. 138 of 13 August 2011, the number of regional councillors was reduced to 30. The majority bonus system (MBS) is a form of semi-proportional representation used in some European countries. Its feature is a majority bonus which gives extra seats or representation in an elected body to the party or to the joined parties with the most votes with the aim of providing government stability.
