2021 Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament
The 2021 Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the eighth tournament in conference history. It was played between March 14 and March 16, 2021, at Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame, Indiana. By winning the tournament, Minnesota earned the Big Ten's automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament. Format All seven Big Ten teams will participate in the tournament, which will return to a single-elimination format for the first time since 2017. Due to the number of games postponed this season and the limited number of windows remaining to reschedule contests, the Big Ten Tournament seeding will be determined using the protocol for unbalanced schedules approved prior to the start of the season. Teams will be seeded No. 1 through No. 7 according to the final regular season conference standings, with the team that finishes first in the conference standings receiving a first-round bye. 2020–21 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Season
The 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season began on November 14, 2020 and concluded with the Frozen Four on April 10, 2021. Due to the cancellation of the previous year's tournament due to COVID-19 pandemic, this was the 73rd season in which an NCAA ice hockey championship was held, and was US college hockey's 127th year overall. Due to concerns related to the pandemic, the start of the season was delayed until what would have normally been the 8th week of play. Despite having to contend with contend with cancellations and delays due to the pandemic, the season was completed. Massachusetts won their first National Championship, ending the 4-year run of NCHC teams. Sampo Ranta
Sampo Ranta (born 31 May 2000) is a Finnish professional ice hockey forward currently playing with Modo Hockey of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He played college ice hockey at Minnesota. Playing career Collegiate Ranta began his collegiate career for the Minnesota Golden Gophers during the 2018–19 season. During his junior year in the 2020–21 season, Ranta recorded 19 goals and 12 assists in 31 games for the Gophers. Following an outstanding season, he was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and named an AHCA First Team All-American. He finished his career at Minnesota with 37 goals and 30 assists in 102 games. Cole Caufield (born January 2, 2001) is an American professional ice hockey right winger for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL). Cameron York (born January 5, 2001) is an American professional ice hockey defenseman for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL). The 2017 Big Ten Conference Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the fourth tournament in conference history. It was played between March 16 and March 18, 2017, at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. As tournament champion Penn State was awarded the Big Ten's automatic bid into the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament.
