2021 Aotearoa Music Awards
The 2021 Aotearoa Music Awards was the 56th holding of the annual ceremony featuring awards for musical recording artists based in or originating from New Zealand. The ceremony took place on 17 December 2021 at the Aotea Centre in Auckland and was hosted by Hayley Sproull and Stan Walker. It was broadcast live on TVNZ 2 and TVNZ+. The finalists were announced on 11 November 2021. Troy Kingi received the most nominations with six, followed by Teeks with five and L.A.B. with four. Hayley Sproull
Hayley Jayne Sproull (born 1989) is a New Zealand comedian, actor, scriptwriter, television show host and radio show co-host. She is the host of ''The Great Kiwi Bake Off'' and the New Zealand edition of ''Have You Been Paying Attention?''. Biography In 2008 Sproull was selected to go to The Globe in London as part of the Young Shakespeare Company. Sproull studied drama at Toi Whakaari in Wellington, New Zealand, graduating in 2011 with a Bachelor of Performing Arts in Acting. She appeared in Three's 2019 sitcom ''Golden Boy'' and created and appeared in comedy web series ''Hayley's Kitchen'' for TVNZ. She has written for television shows ''Jono and Ben'' and ''7 Days.'' Aotearoa Music Award For Best Solo Artist
Best Solo Artist is an Aotearoa Music Award that honours solo artists for outstanding work. The award can either apply to solo performers or a singer who performs with a band. The award was originally divided by gender, with separate prizes going to male and female artists. The awards were first presented in 1978 at the relaunched New Zealand Music Awards. The awards were then called Top Male Vocalist and Top Female Vocalist. In 1985 they became Best Male Vocalist and Best Female Vocalist, then in 2004 they were renamed Best Male Solo Artist and Best Female Solo Artist. Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor (born 7 November 1996), known professionally as Lorde ( ), is a New Zealand singer-songwriter. Taking inspiration from aristocracy for her stage name, she is known for her unconventional musical styles and introspective songwriting. Lorde expressed interest in performing at local venues in her early teens. She signed with Universal Music Group (UMG) in 2009 and collaborated with producer Joel Little in 2011 to start recording music. Harper Finn is a New Zealand singer and musician. He has written and produced ten singles and has announced an EP to be released in 2022. Following the release of his single ’Dance Away These Days’ Harper Finn was awarded ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year' at The Aotearoa Music Awards in 2021. Six60
Six60 are a New Zealand pop rock band formed in Dunedin, Otago in 2008. The band consists of Matiu Walters (lead vocals, guitar), Ji Fraser (lead guitar), Chris Mac (bass guitar), Marlon Gerbes (synthesiser), Hoani Matenga (bass guitar) and Eli Paewai (drums). Their self-titled debut album was released on 10 October 2011 on their own label Massive Entertainment. The Phoenix Foundation is a New Zealand indie rock band formed in Wellington in 1997.
