The 2021 All England Open (officially known as the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships 2021 for sponsorship reasons) was a badminton tournament which took place at Utilita Arena Birmingham in England from 17 to 21 March 2021. It had a total purse of $850,000. Utilita Arena Birmingham
Arena Birmingham (known for sponsorship reasons as Utilita Arena Birmingham, and previously as The Barclaycard Arena and originally as the National Indoor Arena) is an indoor arena and sporting venue in central Birmingham, United Kingdom. It is owned by parent company the NEC Group. When it was opened in 1991, it was the largest indoor arena in the UK. The arena was renamed Utilita Arena Birmingham on 15 April 2020. The arena is located alongside the Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line's Old Turn Junction and opposite the National Sea Life Centre in Brindleyplace. Sean Vendy
Sean Vendy (born 18 May 1996) is a badminton player from England. He started playing badminton at aged 5 in Orkney, then moved to England at 7. He became part of the England national badminton team in May 2015. In 2022, he partnered with Ben Lane won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal in the European Championships. Career In 2021, Vendy claimed his first World Tour title at the Orléans Masters, after in the final he and Ben Lane beat Indian pair Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala. Ben Lane
Ben Lane (born 13 July 1997) is an English badminton player. He won the men's doubles silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal in the European Championships. Personal life Ben's mother Suzanne Louis-Lane, represented England in badminton and had won the women's singles title at the National Championships in 1993 and 1994. His older brother, Alex, represented England in badminton and won the men's singles at the 2017 National Championships. Lane was educated at Exmouth Community College. Career Lane started playing badminton at aged nine, and in his junior career, he had won the U-17 European Championships in the boys' and mixed doubles event in 2014. Hendra Setiawan
Hendra Setiawan (born 25 August 1984) is an Indonesian badminton player. He is an Olympic Games gold medalist, four-time World Champion, two-time Asian Games gold medalist, and two-time All England champion. With these achievements, Setiawan has collected all major individual titles in badminton. He is considered to be one of the greatest men's doubles players in badminton history. Setiawan was ranked first in the men's doubles with two different partners. Together with Markis Kido, he achieved the world no. 1 in September 2007, and with Mohammad Ahsan in November 2013. Mohammad Ahsan
Mohammad Ahsan (born 7 September 1987) is an Indonesian badminton player affiliated with Djarum club who specializes in the men's doubles. He is three-time World Champion, three-time season ending finals champion, and Asian Games gold medalist. Joining the Djarum club since 2007, opened Ahsan's opportunity to join the Indonesian national team until he finally implemented it in the middle of 2008. Neslihan Yiğit (born February 26, 1994) is a Turkish badminton player. The tall athlete plays right-handed and is coached by Çağatay Taşdemir at Egospor club of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. She won the women's singles title at the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games, 2013, 2018 Mediterranean Games and the women's doubles title at the 2013 Mediterranean Games. Badminton At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification
There are 172 quota places available for qualification for badminton at the 2020 Summer Olympics . The Olympic qualification period took place between April 29, 2019 and April 25, 2021, and the Badminton World Federation rankings list, scheduled to publish on June 15, 2021, was used to allocate spots. Nations can enter a maximum of two players each in the men's and women's singles if both are ranked in the world's top 16; otherwise, one quota place until the roster of thirty-eight players has been completed. Similar regulations also apply to the players competing in the doubles, as the NOCs (National Olympic Committees) can enter a maximum of two pairs if both are ranked in the top eight, while the remaining NOCs are entitled to one until the quota of 16 highest-ranked pairs is filled.
