2021 Afghanistan Flood
Floods in Afghanistan start in March and continue until May. Out of 34 provinces in Afghanistan, 21 are vulnerable to floods. The western region and central belt are at the highest risk. However, the southwest and a few northern provinces (Hirat, Ghor, Urozgan, Jozjan, Balkh, and Faryab) can be severely affected by both flooding and drought. Many Afghan provinces are affected by multiple hazards, and lie under the Multi Hazard High Risk Zone. Earthquakes and landslides are of concern in the northern regions. Being mountainous, these areas have poor accessibility due to geographical conditions and harsh weather that further increase the vulnerability of populations living in these areas. Electrocution

2021 Nuristan Floods
Flooding began in the Kamdesh District in Nuristan due to heavy rains. As of July 31, the death toll is at 113 while the number of people missing is unknown. According to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed, heavy rain on July 28 caused the flooding. Impact and aftermath According to Ghulam Bahauddin Jailani, 173 houses were damaged. A number of orchards and 12 kilometers of road were also destroyed in the rain adding to road closure. 2020 South Asian Floods
In 2020, floods have affected South Asia due to heavy monsoon rains. The floods caused $105 billion USD of damage ($88.5 billion in India, $15 billion in Sri Lanka, and $1.5 billion in Pakistan), making it the costliest standalone flood in modern history, and the ninth costliest disaster of all time. In addition there were 6,511 fatalities, the most reported in a flood since Cyclone Sidr in 2007. Floods continued in 2021 and 2022. 2020 Afghanistan Flood
A series of flash floods occurred in Afghanistan beginning in June 2020, with the largest and most impactful flood occurring on 26 August 2020. On 7 June 2014, a flash flood took place in Baghlan, Afghanistan, killing 73-200 people and leaving 200 missing. Glacial Lake
A glacial lake is a body of water with origins from glacier activity. They are formed when a glacier erodes the land and then melts, filling the depression created by the glacier. Formation Near the end of the last glacial period, roughly 10,000 years ago, glaciers began to retreat. A retreating glacier often left behind large deposits of ice in hollows between drumlins or hills. As the ice age ended, these melted to create lakes. This is apparent in the Lake District in Northwestern England where post-glacial sediments are normally between 4 and 6 metres deep.
