2020–21 WNBL Season
The 2020 WNBL season was the 41st season of the competition since its establishment in 1981. The Canberra Capitals were the two-time defending champions, but were defeated in the Semi-Finals by Melbourne. The Southside Flyers won the Grand Final, defeating the Townsville Fire, 99–82. The Flyers took home the franchise's fourth WNBL title overall, this being their first since rebranding as ''Southside''. Chemist Warehouse was again the WNBL's naming rights partner for this season, after signing a three-year deal in July 2018. Spalding again provided equipment including the official game ball, alongside iAthletic supplying team apparel for the fourth consecutive season. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The Adelaide Lightning, Melbourne Boomers, Perth Lynx, Southside Flyers and Sydney Uni Flames are the current WNBL teams sharing a market with an NBL team (the Townsville Fire and University of Canberra Capitals shared a market with the Townsville Crocodiles and Canberra Cannons respectively, before both NBL clubs became defunct). Alison Renee Schwagmeyer (born July 31, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for the University of Canberra Capitals of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She played college basketball for the Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Quincy Hawks before playing in Germany, Australia, Romania, Spain, and Serbia. Katie Ebzery
Katie-Rae Ebzery (born 8 January 1990) is an Australian former professional basketball player who played 15 seasons in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She was a three-time All-WNBL First Team member and a two-time Olympian with the Australian Opals. Early life Ebzery was born in Waratah, New South Wales. From a young age, she would watch her mum and cousins play basketball. Lauren Scherf
Lauren Marie Scherf (born 7 March 1996) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Perth Lynx of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). Professional career Scherf began her professional career in 2013 with the Dandenong Rangers. She played four seasons with the Rangers, where she won the WNBL Rookie of the Year Award in 2015. She played two seasons with the Canberra Capitals between 2017 and 2019, and then two with the Sydney Uni Flames in 2019–20 and the 2020 Hub season. Jade Melbourne (born 18 August 2002) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Seattle Storm of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She plays for the Australia women's national basketball team, Australian national team. She represented Australia at the 2021 FIBA Women's Asia Cup, where the team won the bronze medal. WNBA career Seattle Storm Melbourne was selected in the Third Round of the 2022 WNBA Draft by the Seattle Storm. Melbourne, her agent, and the Storm agreed that Melbourne would stay over in Australia and play another season in the Women's National Basketball League, WNBL. The Perth Lynx are an Australian professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The Lynx compete in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) and play their home games at Bendat Basketball Centre. For sponsorship reasons, they are known as the Northern Star Resources Perth Lynx. The Lynx were established in 1988 as the Perth Breakers.
