The 2020–21 Stumptown AC season was the club's second in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA), second overall, and first under this name and management. Prior to the season, the league announced both Stumptown Athletic and San Diego 1904 FC would go on hiatus for the fall. In early March 2021, NISA announced Stumptown AC would play in the Spring season with new ownership. Stumptown AC
Stumptown AC, formerly Stumptown Athletic, is an American professional soccer team that plays in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). The club is based in Matthews, North Carolina, a suburb of Charlotte. History Following an initial bid in late 2017, the team was first announced by the National Independent Soccer Association on October 23, 2018 with plans to begin play in the inaugural 2019–20 season. Originally referred to in league press releases simply as "Charlotte", the name Stumptown Athletic was officially unveiled in June 2019. The name came from an early nickname for Matthews derived from the fact that farmers cut down so many trees to clear land that the town was left full of tree stumps. Max Finley Stadium is the home stadium for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga American football, football team and Chattanooga FC (National Independent Soccer Association, NISA), a professional Division 3 soccer team. Michael Kafari
Michael Kafari (born October 30, 1991) is a Ghanaian footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder. Career College and Amateur Kafari played college soccer at the University of New Mexico between 2010 and 2013. While at college, Kafari appeared for Premier Development League side Austin Aztex in 2012. Professional Vancouver Whitecaps FC selected Kafari in the third round (No. 51 overall) of the 2014 MLS SuperDraft. However, he wasn't signed by the club, instead joining USL Pro side Charleston Battery. Kafari left Charleston without making a league appearance, but was later signed by Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas City. Diego Barrera (born March 25, 1987 in Bogotá) is a Colombian-born American soccer player. Career College and amateur Barrera is a professional american football player from California. Christian Eric Chaney (born September 8, 1994) is an American soccer player who currently plays for Forward Madison FC in USL League One. Career Chaney played college soccer at Fresno City College between 2011 and 2014. In the summer of 2012, Chaney played with Mexican side C.D. De los Altos as an amateur player. The Maryland SoccerPlex is a sports complex in Germantown, Maryland, although its mailing address is Boyds, Maryland. The facility, completed in 2000 and operated by the Maryland Soccer Foundation (MSF), has 21 natural grass fields, 3 artificial turf fields, and 8 indoor convertible basketball/volleyball courts. Olakunle "Kay" Banjo (born December 3, 1992) is an American soccer player who currently plays for Maryland Bobcats FC. Career Youth and college Banjo played four years of college soccer, three year at Towson University, before moving to University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2014. Michael Bryant (born April 2, 1995) is an American soccer player who plays as a defensive midfielder or defender for Detroit City in the USL Championship.
