The 2020–21 Nashville Predators season was the 23rd season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 25, 1997. John Hynes entered his second season as coach and first full season as head coach of the team. On December 20, 2020, the league temporarily realigned into four divisions with no conferences due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing closure of the Canada–United States border. As a result of this realignment, the Predators remained in the Central Division this season and would only play games against the other teams in their realigned division during the regular season and potentially the first two rounds of the playoffs. On May 8, 2021, the Predators clinched a playoff berth after a 3–1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Central Division (NHL)
The NHL's Central Division was formed in 1993 as part of the Western Conference in a league realignment. Its predecessor was the Norris Division and its also one of two successors to the Northwest Division. The Chicago Blackhawks have been a member of the Central Division in all of its seasons since the original 1993 realignment. The Arizona Coyotes (as the original Winnipeg Jets), Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues were also original members of the division, but were realigned to a different division for a while before returning; both the Coyotes and Stars were moved to the Pacific Division in 1998 (the Stars moved back to the Central in 2013, and the Coyotes followed in 2021), while the Blues were moved to the West Division during the temporary 2021 realignment. Juuse Saros
Juuse Saros (born 19 April 1995) is a Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Nashville Predators of the National Hockey League (NHL). Saros was selected by the Predators in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Saros was born in Forssa but grew up in Hämeenlinna. He played his entire youth career and first three professional seasons with hometown club, HPK of the Liiga. On 16 June 2015, he was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Nashville Predators, having been drafted by Nashville in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Saros was named to the 2012–13 Jr. A SM-Liiga All-Star Team and was a member of Team Finland at the IIHF U18 World Junior Championships where he was named the tournament's Best Goaltender. The Lightning entered the season as the defending Stanley Cup champions. Pekka Rinne
Pekka Rinne (; born 3 November 1982) is a Finnish former professional hockey goaltender. Drafted by the Nashville Predators in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Rinne became their starting goaltender during the 2008–09 season and quickly established himself as one of the NHL's best goaltenders. He won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's best goaltender in the 2017–18 season, and was a finalist for the award four times. The Carolina Hurricanes (colloquially known as the Canes) are a professional ice hockey team based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
