2020–21 Iowa Hawkeyes Women's Basketball Team
The 2020–21 Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team represented the University of Iowa during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Hawkeyes were led by twenty-first year head coach Lisa Bluder and plaed their home games at Carver–Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, IA as members of the Big Ten Conference. The Hawkeyes finished the season 20–10, 11–8 in Big Ten play to finish in sixth place. They received a bye into the Second Round of the Big Ten Women's Tournament where they defeated Purdue, Rutgers, and Michigan before losing in the final to Maryland. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. As the five seed in the Riverwalk Regional, they defeated twelve seed and four seed Kentucky before losing to one seed UConn to end their season. Lisa Bluder
Lisa Marie Bluder (, born April 16, 1961) is the head coach of the University of Iowa, Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball program. Formerly, she served as coach of St. Ambrose University and the Drake Bulldogs women's basketball, Drake Bulldogs. Early life Bluder attended Linn-Mar High School and graduated in 1979. She went on to study and graduate from the University of Northern Iowa in 1983. Coaching career St. Ambrose University She began her coaching career at St. Ambrose University, where she coached six successful seasons building the Bees into an NAIA powerhouse. During her tenure at St. Ambrose, she recorded a 169–36 (.824) mark and guided the Bees to four straight national tournaments, including two consecutive Final Four appearances. The 1990 St. Ambrose team was ranked No. 1 and she was named the NAIA Converse Coach of the Year. 2020 Women's National Invitation Tournament
The 2020 Women's National Invitation Tournament was to be an annual single-elimination tournament of 64 NCAA Division I basketball teams that were not selected to participate in the 2020 Women's NCAA tournament. The tournament committee was to announce the 64-team field on March 16, following the selection of the NCAA Tournament field. The tournament was set to begin on March 18, 2020, and end on April 4, 2020, with the championship game televised on the CBS Sports Network. As with all tournaments, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, games were to be held behind closed doors. On March 12, 2020, the NCAA canceled the tournament.
