The 2020–21 Handball-Bundesliga was the 56th season of the Handball-Bundesliga, Germany's premier handball league and the 44th season consisting of only one league. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league announced 1 October 2020 as the start date and the season ended on 27 June 2021. The Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) is the top German professional handball league. From 2007 onwards, the league was sponsored by Toyota and has officially been called the ''Toyota Handball-Bundesliga''. This lasted until 2012 when the Deutsche Kreditbank AG (DKB) became the new sponsor. The official name has consequently been changed to ''LIQUY MOLY Handball-Bundesliga''. SC DHfK Leipzig Handball is a German handball team from Leipzig, Germany, that plays in the Handball-Bundesliga. It was one of the strongest GDR clubs in late 1950s and 1960s. History The SC DHfK Leipzig was founded in 1954 as a sports club of the ''Deutsche Hochschule für Körperkultur'' (German University for Physical Culture). During the time in the GDR, the club's handball section won six national championships (1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966) and won the GDR Cup twice. In addition, it won the EHF Champions League in the 1965/1966 season and defeated Budapest Honvéd in the final on 22 April 1966 (16:14). Füchse Berlin is a professional handball club from Berlin, Germany, that currently competes in the Handball-Bundesliga, the highest national league, and in EHF competitions. History Until 2005, the club was organized as handball department of Reinickendorfer Füchse.
