2020–21 FC Rostov Season
The 2020–21 season was FC Rostov's 91st season in existence and the club's 12th consecutive season in the top flight of Russian football. In addition to the domestic league, Rostov participated in this season's editions of the Russian Cup and the UEFA Europa League. The season covers the period from 1 August 2020 to 30 June 2021. Rostov finished the season in 9th place, reached the Round of 16 of the Russian Cup, and where knocked out of the UEFA Europa League at the third round stage. Season events On 4 August, Rostov announced the signing of Aleksandr Smirnov. On 10 August, Aleksandr Zuyev moved permanently to Rubin Kazan, where he'd been on loan at the previous season. On 14 August, Danila Vedernikov joined Volgar Astrakhan on a season-long loan deal, and Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson left the club to re-join Lillestrøm. FC Rostov
FC Rostov (russian: link=no, Футбольный клуб Ростов) is a Russian professional football club based in Rostov-on-Don, Rostov Oblast. The club are members of the Russian Premier League, and play at the Rostov Arena. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the European Club Association suspended the team. History 1930-1989 The club was established on 10 May 1930, and was initially named Selmashstroy (Сельмашстрой). They were renamed Selmash in 1936 and Traktor in 1941. In 1950, the club joined the South Zone of the Azov-Don group of the Russian SFSR Championship. The following season they were placed in Group B of the championship. After finishing first in their group, they played in Group A in 1952. Aleksandr Zuyev (footballer)
Aleksandr Dmitriyevich Zuyev (russian: Александр Дмитриевич Зуев; born 26 June 1996) is a Kazakh footballer who plays for Russian club Arsenal Tula and the Kazakhstan national team. Born in Kazakhstan, he moved to Russia at a young age and represented the country on junior levels before switching allegiance to Kazakhstan for senior level in 2023. For the most of his career he played as a left winger and in other attacking positions, and he was also deployed as a right-back. Ivelin Ivanov Popov ( bg, Ивелин Иванов Попов; born 26 October 1987) is a Bulgarian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Levski Sofia. Club career Youth career Born in Sofia, Popov started to play football in Septemvri Sofia's academy. Then he played for the youth formations of Levski Sofia from 1999 to 2004. SC Rotor Volgograd (russian: СK Ротор) is a Russian professional football club from the large city of Volgograd, Volgograd Oblast (formerly Stalingrad). Saeid Ezatolahi Afagh ( fa, سعید عزتاللهی آفاق; born 1 October 1996) is an Iranian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Danish club Vejle and the Iran national team. Ezatolahi came up through Malavan's youth academy and impressed from an early age, making his first team debut in 2012 and being the Iran Pro League's youngest ever player at the age of 16. Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson (born 26 February 1991) is an Icelandic international footballer who plays as a forward for ÍA. He began his career with ÍA in his native Iceland before a three-year spell at Norwegian side Lillestrøm, during which time he made his international debut. In July 2012 he moved to English side Wolverhampton Wanderers for a reported £2.4m fee. His contract with Wolves expired in June 2016 without renewal.
