2020 Waterford Senior Hurling Championship
The 2020 Waterford Senior Hurling Championship was the 120th staging of the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Waterford County Board in 1897. The original championship draw took place on 21 January 2020, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic in Ireland the draws for a rescheduled championship took place on 15 June 2020 with a new format being adopted and relegation being abolished. The championship took place between 24 July and 30 August 2020. Ballygunner were the defending champions. On 30 August 2020, Ballygunner won the championship after a 1–23 to 0–09 defeat of Passage in the final at Walsh Park. This was their 19th championship title overall and their seventh title in succession. Lismore's Maurice Shanahan was the championship's top scorer with 3-44. Ballysaggart GAA
Ballysaggart GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ballysaggart, County Waterford, Ireland. The club enters teams in hurling each year, which includes 2 adult hurling teams in the Waterford Senior Hurling Championship and the Western Junior Hurling “C” Championship, and had briefly returned to participating in Gaelic football entering a team in the West Waterford Junior Football Championship in 2015, after a lapse of ten years. Ballysaggart has no underage teams. Instead the club is amalgamated with Lismore GAA for underage teams and play as Naomh Carthach. Martin O'Neill (hurler)
Martin O'Neill (born 1992) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford Senior Championship club Mount Sion. He previously lined out with the Waterford senior hurling team. Career O'Neill first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with Mount Sion before eventually progressing onto the club's senior team. He simultaneously lined out with the Waterford Institute of Technology in the Fitzgibbon Cup. O'Neill first appeared on the inter-county scene as captain of the Waterford minor hurling team that won the Munster MHC title in 2009. He later lined out with the under-21 team. O'Neill was still a member of the minor team when he was drafted onto the Waterford senior hurling team as a member of the extended training panel in 2010. Dessie Hutchinson
Dessie Hutchinson (born 5 December 1996) is an Irish hurler and former professional association footballer. He last played professional football as a midfielder or full-back for Waterford of the League of Ireland Premier Division. In 2020 he joined the Waterford county hurling team and was part of the team that reached the 2020 All-Ireland SHC Final. Hutchinson was born in Dunmore East, County Waterford and played youth football with Waterford Bohemians and Brighton & Hove Albion, where he made his senior debut in the EFL Cup. Pauric Mahony
Pauric Mahony (born 11 May 1992) is an Irish hurler who plays for Waterford Senior Championship club Ballygunner and was previously the captain of the Waterford senior hurling team before announcing his retirement from inter-county hurling in 2023. Playing career De La Salle College Mahony first came to prominence as a hurler with De La Salle College in Waterford. He played in every grade before eventually joining the college's senior team. On 8 March 2008, he was just 15-years-old when he won a Harty Cup medal after lining out at left corner-forward in a 1-11 to 0-07 defeat of Thurles CBS in the final. On 19 April 2008, Mahony again lined out at left corner-forward when De La Salle College again faced Thurles CBS in the All-Ireland final. Abbeyside GAA
Abbeyside () is a townland in Dungarvan in County Waterford, Ireland. It lies on the east bank of the Colligan River. History MacGrath's Castle was a notable landmark in Abbeyside, overlooking Dungarvan Harbour, until it collapsed in January 1916. It was situated at Friar's Walk in Abbeyside, near the Augustinian abbey. It was a six-storey tower house, reputedly built by the MacGrath family, and labelled MacCragh's Castle in the Civil Survey of 1654. While, as of the mid-18th century, it was still in a "good state of preservation", by the mid-20th century only fragments of the walls remained. De La Salle Gaelic football and hurling club is based in Waterford City, Ireland. The club competes in Gaelic games competitions organised by Waterford GAA board. Mount Sion ( ga, Cnoc Sion) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Waterford City, County Waterford, Ireland. It was founded by teachers in the school of the same name. Although technically separate from the school, the club still maintains a close relationship with the school, sharing the same sports facilities in the city. The club fields teams in both the Waterford Hurling and Gaelic football championships and has had many famous players, including John Keane, Philly Grimes, Tony Browne and Ken McGrath. Roanmore GAA (Irish Language, Irish: ) is a GAA club in Waterford City, Republic of Ireland. Formed in 1970, the club made rapid progress, achieving Senior Hurling status in 1980. The club's greatest achievement was winning back to back Waterford Senior Hurling Championships in 1989 and 1990.
