2020 Washington House Of Representatives Election
The 2020 Washington House of Representatives elections took place as part of the biennial United States elections on November 3, 2020. Washington state voters elected state representatives in all 98 seats of the House, electing 2 state representatives in each of the 49 Washington state legislative districts. State representatives serve two-year terms in the Washington House of Representatives. Following the previous election in 2018, Democrats held a 57-to-41 seat majority over Republicans. Democrats retained control of the Washington House of Representatives following the 2020 general election, with the balance of power remaining unchanged at 57 (D) to 41 (R). Washington House Of Representatives
The Washington House of Representatives is the lower house of the Washington State Legislature, and along with the Washington State Senate makes up the legislature of the U.S. state of Washington. It is composed of 98 Representatives from 49 districts, each of which elects one Senator and two members of the House. They are elected to separate positions with the top-two primary system. Nikkita R. Oliver is an American lawyer, non-profit administrator, educator, poet, and politician. They were a candidate for Mayor of Seattle in the 2017 mayoral election, but finished third in the primary with 17% of the vote. Oliver was defeated again in an at-large Seattle city council race in 2021. Oliver was a leader in the Black Lives Matter, civil rights, and criminal justice reform movements in Seattle, before relocating to Detroit in 2022. Washington's 1st legislative district is one of 49 districts in Washington state for representation in the state legislature. The T-shaped district is mostly north of the borders of King and Snohomish counties, stretching from High Bridge Road and Broadway Avenue in the east through the entirety of the cities of Bothell and Brier to I-5 in Mountlake Terrace in the west, though the district sweeps south of Bothell to part of Kirkland and reaches to Lake Washington.
