2020 Vidarbha Floods
The 2020 Vidarbha Floods were a series of flooding events that occurred in the Vidarbha region of Indian State of Maharashtra in 2020. The floods affected the districts of Nagpur, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Gondia. Over 92,000 people were affected in the region. Cause The flooding was cased due to excess rainfall at the catchment area of the rivers of Wainganga basin, in the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh, forced authorities to open the gates of Chaurai dam in Chhindwara district. On August 28 Central Water commission had released a flood warning. for the region On August 28 and 29, the rivers Pench, Kanhan, Bagh and Wainganga and their numerous tributaries were in their full fury. Vidarbha (Pronunciation: Help:IPA/Marathi, [ʋid̪əɾbʱə]) is a geographical region in the east of the Indian state of Maharashtra and a Proposed states and union territories of India#Maharashtra, proposed state of central India, comprising the state's Amravati Division, Amravati and Nagpur Division, Nagpur divisions. Amravati Division's former name is Berar Province, Berar (Varhad in Marathi language, Marathi). It occupies 31.6% of the total area and holds 21.3% of the total population of Maharashtra. Gose Khurd Dam
Gosekhurd Dam, ( mr, गोसे खुर्द धरण) is an earthfill dam on the Wainganga River near Pauni in Bhandara district, in the state of Maharashtra in India. The dam contains 33 spillway gates to regulate water flow into the river for irrigation throughout the year. The height of the dam above lowest foundation is while the length is . The dam volume is and gross water storage capacity is . Its purpose is irrigation and hydropower generation, as well as playing a role in systems for drinking water for the nearby Municipal Council as well as Grampanchayat. The dam was completed in 2008, and the Gosekhurd Reservoir began impounding water in 2009.
