2020 Vancouver Whitecaps FC Season
The 2020 Vancouver Whitecaps FC season is the club's tenth season in Major League Soccer, the top division of soccer in the United States and Canada. Including previous iterations of the franchise, this is 43rd season of professional soccer being played in Vancouver under a variation of the "Whitecaps" name. Around September and towards the end of the season, COVID-19 cross-border restrictions imposed by the Canadian government forced the Whitecaps to play the remaining home matches at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. On November 16, 2019, the Whitecaps named Axel Schuster as the club's new sporting director. Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club is a Canadian professional soccer team based in Vancouver. They compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The MLS iteration of the club was established on March 18, 2009, and began play in 2011 as the 17th team to enter Major League Soccer while replacing the USSF Division 2 team of the same name in the city, making them a phoenix club and the third to carry the Whitecaps name. The club has been owned and managed by the same group since their USSF days. In the 2012 season, the team became the first Canadian team to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23, formerly known as Whitecaps FC Reserves, was a Canadian soccer team based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Although founded in 2005 as part of the development system for the Vancouver Whitecaps USL First Division franchise, beginning in 2011 they became part of the development system for Major League Soccer's Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Thomas Hasal (born July 9, 1999) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Major League Soccer. Early life Born in Cambridge, Ontario, Hasal moved with his family to Ottawa when he has a year old, where he began playing soccer at age five. He then moved to Calgary at age seven, Edmonton at age eight, and Saskatoon at age nine.
