2020 V.League 1
The 2020 V.League 1 season (or LS V.League 1 2020 for sponsorship reasons) was the 64th season of the V.League 1, the highest division of Football in Vietnam. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the schedule had been changed to begin on 7 March instead of 21 February as originally planned. All matches in matchdays 1 and 2 were played behind closed doors due to the same reason. Following the stabilizing situation, the league resumed in June, and also became the first league to allow fans into the stadium post-COVID-19 outbreak. On 26 July 2020, the league was suspended again due to another surge in COVID-19 cases. Changes from last season Team changes The following teams have changed division since the 2019 season. Viettel FC
Viettel Football Club (), simply known as Viettel FC, is a Vietnamese professional football club based in Hanoi. The club belongs to the Viettel Sports Centre, a part of Viettel Group and competes in the V.League 1, the top tier of the Vietnamese football league system. Viettel, formerly known as Thể Công, is one of the most widely supported clubs and also the most successful club in Vietnamese football history, having won a record 20 national titles, including nine consecutively from 1971 to 1979. SHB Da Nang Football Club (), simply known as SHB Da Nang, is a Vietnamese professional football club based in Da Nang that plays in the top division in Vietnamese football, V.League 1. The club was known as Quang Nam-Da Nang FC ( vi, Câu lạc bộ Bóng đá Quảng Nam-Đà Nẵng) prior to the 2007–08 season, when it was bought out by the Saigon-Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB). Song Lam Nghe An Football Club (), simply known as Song Lam Nghe An or SLNA, is a professional V.League 1 Football team, football club playing at the Vinh Stadium in the city of Vinh, Nghệ An, Nghe An province, Vietnam. Thepxanh-Namdinh Football Club (, SNFC), commonly known as Namdinh, is a Vietnamese professional football club based in Nam Định that competes in the V.League 1. History Nam Định has two sports facilities, Thiên Trường Stadium (formerly Cuối Stadium) and Trần Quốc Toản Indoor Stadium, which are host to football and volleyball matches. 2021 AFC Cup
The 2021 AFC Cup was the 18th edition of the AFC Cup, Asia's secondary club football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The winners of the tournament automatically qualified for the 2022 AFC Champions League, entering the qualifying play-offs, if they had not qualified through their domestic performance. Lebanese club Al-Ahed, having won their first AFC Cup title in 2019, were the title holders, since the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia after several group stage matches and the title was not awarded. 2021 AFC Champions League
The 2021 AFC Champions League was the 40th edition of Asia's premier club football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), and the 19th under the current AFC Champions League title. Al-Hilal won their fourth title by defeating Pohang Steelers 2–0 in the final, becoming the most successful team in the history of the competition. As winners, they automatically qualified for the 2022 AFC Champions League (although they had already qualified through their domestic performance). They also earned the right to play in the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
