2020 Texas State Senate Election
The 2020 Texas Senate elections took place as part of the biennial United States elections. Texas voters elected state senators in 16 of the 31 state senate districts. State senators serve four-year terms in the Texas State Senate. Those elected in 2020 will only be elected for two years, however, as part of the 2-4-4 term system. A statewide map of Texas's state Senate districts can be obtained from the Texas Legislative Council. and individual district maps can be obtained from the U.S. Census. Following the 2016 state senate elections, Republicans maintained effective control of the Senate with 19 members. To claim control of the chamber from Republicans, the Democrats would have needed to net four Senate seats. Borris Miles
Borris L. Miles (born October 29, 1965), is a Democratic politician from Texas. He has represented District 13 in the Texas Senate since winning election in November 2016. He is a former member of the Texas House of Representatives, where he represented District 146, which encompasses parts of Harris County, Texas, including Sunnyside, Houston, and Third Ward, Houston. Jane Gray Nelson (born October 5, 1951) is an American businesswoman and former educator who represents Texas Senate District 12, encompassing parts of Denton and Tarrant counties. Larry Taylor (born June 25, 1960) is a former Republican member of the Texas Senate. He was a member of the Texas House of Representatives from District 24 in Galveston County from 2003 to 2012. Carol Alvarado (born October 26, 1967) is the state senator for Texas's 6th state senate district. The district includes southeast Houston, and portions of Pasadena.
