The medal table of the 2020 Summer Paralympics ranks the participating National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) by the number of gold medals that are won by their athletes during the competition. The 2020 Paralympics were the sixteenth Games to be held, a quadrennial competition open to athletes with physical and intellectual disabilities. The games were held in Tokyo, Japan from 24 August to 5 September 2021. There were 539 medal events. Athletes from Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Montenegro, and Oman won their first Paralympic medals. El Salvador and Oman had never won an Olympic medal. Costa Rica, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka won their first Paralympic gold medals. Ethiopia At The Summer Paralympics
Ethiopia's participation in the Paralympic Games has been sporadic. The country made its Paralympic début at the 1968 Summer Games in Tel Aviv, sending two competitors who both competed in both athletics and table tennis. Ethiopia was then absent from the Games for almost a decade, returning in 1976 with a one-man delegation Abraham Habte, who entered athletics, lawn bowls and table tennis. In 1980, Habte was again Ethiopia's only representative, this time competing only in lawn bowls. Ethiopia then entered a prolonged period of absence, before sending a single runner (Kiros Tekle) to the 2004 Games. In 2008, the country entered a two-man delegation in athletics. In 2012, Wondiye Fikre Indelbu became the first Ethiopian to win a medal in the Paralympic Games, winning a silver in the men's 1500 meters - T46 event in athletics. Zheng Tao (, born 25 December 1990) is a Chinese para swimmer and five-time Paralympic champion. He is known as the "armless swimmer". He made a world record by winning 4 gold medals in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic. Early life Zheng lost his arms due to an electric shock when he was a child. Swimming career In 2004 Zheng took up the sport of Swimming and in 2010 he made his international swimming debut when Zheng represented China at the World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Zheng competed in his first Paralympic Games at the 2012 London Paralympics, where he won the gold medal in a close race in the 100m backstroke S6 final. At the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, he suffered a lower back injury but still won the gold medal at the Men's 100 metre backstroke S6 event with a world record of 1:10.84, two seconds faster than the previous record, which was established by himself in 2015. Taekwondo at the 2020 Summer Paralympics was held at the Makuhari Messe; the same location where goalball, volleyball and wheelchair fencing took place. This was the first time that taekwondo was included in the Summer Paralympic Games. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Only Kyorugi was practiced at the Tokyo 2020 Games. There are two classes at Para Taekwondo, K43 for athletes with restrictions on both sides of their arms below the elbow joint and K44 for athletes with restrictions on one side in ther arm or leg. There were 280 qualified slots (174 male, 106 female) which competed in male and female events. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Classification There are 11 classifications in table tennis. Classes 1 – 5 are assigned to athletes who sit in a wheelchair while competing. Classes 6 – 10 are assigned to athletes who stands while competing.
