2020 Sint Maarten General Election
Snap general elections were held on 9 January 2020 in Sint Maarten, two years earlier than scheduled, following the dissolution of the Second Marlin-Romeo cabinet in September 2019. Electoral system The 15 seats in the Estates were elected by proportional representation.The Constitution
Estates of Sint Maarten In order to participate in the election, new parties and parties without a seat in parliament were required to obtain at least 136 signatures; 1% of the valid votes of the 2018 parliamentary elections.

The Parliament of Sint Maarten ( nl, Staten van Sint Maarten) is a unicameral legislature that consists of 15 members, each elected for a four-year term in a general election. The first parliament was installed on 10 October 2010, the date of the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles, and consisted of the members of the island council elected on 17 September 2010. United Democrats (Sint Maarten)
The United Democrats is a political party on Sint Maarten. The party was originally a merger between the Democratic Party (DP) and the United People's Party (UP). The UP left and re-established itself in 2020, leaving the United Democrats as essentially a direct continuation of the Democratic Party. In 2009, the grandson of the founder of the DP, Theo Heyliger, decided to leave the DP. Heyliger then founded the UP and contested the next three elections. In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, which hit the island hard on 6 September 2017 and paralyzed the economy, the DP and the UP decided to merge. National Alliance (Sint Maarten)
The 'National Alliance' ( nl, Nationale Alliantie) is a political alliance in Sint Maarten, formed by the Sint Maarten Patriotic Alliance and the National Progressive Party. It is one of main political parties within Sint Maarten. At the legislative elections in the Netherlands Antilles, 18 January 2002, the alliance won 4.8% of the popular vote of Sint Maarten and 1 out of 22 seats. 2018 Sint Maarten General Election
Snap general elections were held in Sint Maarten on 26 February 2018 following a no confidence vote in the Second Marlin cabinet. Background In November 2017, a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister William Marlin and some other ministers was accepted in Parliament, due to Marlin's position in the negotiation with the Dutch government about anti fraud measures and aid funds in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. After the motion of no confidence was accepted, Marlin tendered the resignation of his cabinet to governor Eugene Holiday and requested elections to be held. Early life and education Silveria Elfrieda Jacobs was born on 31 July 1968 on Aruba to Nadia Willemsberg. As a child, Jacobs attended the Leonald Conner School and Milton Peters College on Sint Maarten. After receiving her HAVO diploma in 1986, Jacobs enrolled at the University of the Virgin Islands where she obtained a bachelor's degree in Education.
