2020 Salt Lake County Mayoral Election
The 2020 Salt Lake County mayoral election was held to elect the next mayor of Salt Lake County, Utah on November 3, 2020, alongside the presidential, House of Representatives and gubernatorial elections. This marked the sixth election to the office since the post was created in 2000. On January 2, 2019, incumbent two-term County Mayor, Democrat Ben McAdams, resigned after being elected to represent Utah's 4th congressional district, triggering a 30-day deadline for the Salt Lake County Democratic Party Central Committee to vote for the replacement mayor. On January 26, 2019, the Committee elected county councilwoman at-large Jenny Wilson, unsuccessful 2018 Senate candidate, to succeed McAdams. No primary elections were held. Jenny Wilson (politician)
Jenny Wilson (born November 1, 1965) is an American politician currently serving as the Mayor of Salt Lake County, Utah. In September 2007, she was a primary candidate for mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah. In 2016, she was Utah's national committeewoman for the Democratic Party. She is a daughter of Ted Wilson, a former mayor of Salt Lake City. Wilson was the Democratic nominee in the 2018 Utah Senate race, running against Republican nominee Mitt Romney. After her election defeat, she was appointed to replace Ben McAdams as Salt Lake County Mayor, taking the oath of office in January 2019. Trent Staggs (born May 10, 1974) is an American entrepreneur and politician, serving as the mayor of Riverton, Utah since 2018. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served on the Riverton City Council and is a candidate for the United States Senate. Early life and career Staggs was raised in Orem, Utah, as one of 10 children. He graduated from Bingham High School in South Jordan, Utah, and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tahiti. The 2020 Utah gubernatorial election was held on November 3, 2020, to elect the governor of Utah, concurrently with the 2020 U.S. presidential election, as well as elections to the United States Senate and elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections. Although incumbent Republican Governor Gary Herbert was eligible to run for re-election to a third full term, he initially announced shortly after being re-elected in 2016 that he would not run again, but indicated in January 2019 that he was open to the possibility of running again before ultimately deciding to retire and endorse his lieutenant governor, Spencer Cox. Utah's 4th Congressional District
Utah's 4th congressional district is a congressional district created by the state legislature as a result of reapportionment by Congress after the 2010 Census showed population increases in the state relative to other states. Prior to 2010 reapportionment, Utah had three congressional districts. Some 85 percent of the new district is concentrated in Salt Lake County and it includes a portion of Salt Lake City, which is shared with the 2nd and 3rd districts; it also includes parts of Utah, Juab, and Sanpete counties. The Green Party of the United States (GPUS) is a federation of Green state political parties in the United States.
