2020 New York Liberty Season
The 2020 WNBA season was the 24th season for the New York Liberty franchise of the WNBA. The Liberty opened the regular season on July 25, 2020 versus the Seattle Storm. During the off-season the Liberty announced that they would return to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as their permanent home. In the 2018 and 2019 seasons, the Liberty's primary home venue was the Westchester County Center in White Plains, New York. Additionally, the Liberty announced that Walt Hopkins would replace Katie Smith as head coach. This WNBA season will feature an all-time high 36 regular-season games. However, the plan for expanded games was put on hold on April 3, when the WNBA postponed its season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under a plan approved on June 15, the league is scheduled to hold a shortened 22-game regular season at IMG Academy, without fans present, starting on July 24. Walt Hopkins
Walt Hopkins is the former American basketball head coach for the New York Liberty of the WNBA. Education and early career Hopkins earned a B.A. in English writing from the University of Nevada. He then earned master's degrees from Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley. At Berkeley, he worked as an academic coach and tutor for the school's athletes. In 2013 he was a player development coach for the Tulsa Shock of the WNBA. He was an assistant women's basketball coach at Utah Valley University from 2013 to 2014. He joined the Minnesota Lynx as assistant coach in 2017, when the Lynx won the championship. Megan Kayla Walker (born November 23, 1998) is an American professional basketball player. She played college basketball for the UConn Huskies. Walker was selected to the first team All-American by the Associated Press (AP) and by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) in 2020. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough
Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (born May 18, 1995) is an American professional basketball player for the Israeli team Maccabi Bnot Ashdod, and the Washington Mystics of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2017 WNBA draft. She is one of Western Pennsylvania's most decorated women's athletes in the region's history. The Las Vegas Aces are an American professional basketball team based in the Las Vegas Valley, Las Vegas metropolitan area. The Rice Owls women's basketball team represents Rice University in women's basketball. The school competes in Conference USA in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Erica Ogwumike
Erica Erinma Ogwumike (born September 26, 1997) is a Nigerian American basketball player. She played college basketball for the Rice Owls. In July 2020, she announced her decision to play for the Nigeria women's national basketball team in the Tokyo Olympics. The Duke Blue Devils women's basketball team is the college basketball program representing Duke University in the Atlantic Coast Conference of NCAA Division I. Team history In 1974, Duke hired Emma Jean Howard to teach physical education, and to serve as the head coach of the women's basketball and volleyball teams. Leaonna Laneah Odom (born March 26, 1998) is an American professional basketball player who is currently a free agent in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).
