2020 New Mexico United Season
The 2020 New Mexico United season was the second season for New Mexico United in the USL Championship (USL-C), the second-tier professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. This article covers the period from November 18, 2019, the day after the 2019 USL-C Playoff Final, to the conclusion of the 2020 USL-C Playoff Final, scheduled for November 12–16, 2020. On March 12 the season was suspended for a minimum of 30 days due to concerns for player and fans health during the COVID-19 pandemic. On June 4, the league announced a return to play on July 11, 2020 and on July 2 the club announced its updated schedule. Season in Review Off-season and Pre-season The club completed its inaugural season by leading the league in attendance while qualifying for the last playoff spot in the western conference, although they fell in the play-in round to the Sacramento Republic. New Mexico United
New Mexico United is an American professional soccer team based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 2018, the team currently plays in the USL Championship, the second division of American soccer. History Former teams The state of New Mexico gained its first professional soccer team in the 1990s, the New Mexico Chiles of the American Professional Soccer League and later the USISL. The team was runner-up for the league title in 1995 and attracted an average home attendance of 3,854, but was folded by its owners in 1996. The Chiles was replaced the following season by the Albuquerque Geckos, who entered USISL's Division 3 with new owners and played at a new soccer stadium shared with the collegiate New Mexico Lobos. The Geckos won the Division 3 championship and were promoted to the second division A-League in 1998, but struggled to win matches and were unable to pay players and creditors. Sacramento Republic FC
Sacramento Republic FC is an American professional soccer team based in Sacramento, California, that plays in the Western Conference of the USL Championship, the second level in US soccer. Co-founded by Warren Smith and Joe Wagoner in 2012, the team started play in 2014 at the 20,231-seat Hughes Stadium, before moving midseason to their current home at Heart Health Park. Republic won the 2014 USL championship and have made the playoffs four times. Kalen Ryden
Kalen Ryden (born April 12, 1991) is an American soccer player who currently plays for New Mexico United in the USL Championship. Career College and Amateur Ryden began his college career at Oral Roberts University where he played from 2009 to 2010. In his two seasons with the Golden Eagles, he made 35 appearances and tallied three goals and two assists. After the 2010 season, he left the Golden Eagles soccer program due to injury. However, he remained a student at Oral Roberts during the school year. In 2012, Ryden transferred to Midwestern State University and redshirted his first season there due to transfer rules. During his time with the Mustangs, he made 28 appearances and tallied one goal and two assists. Amando Moreno
Amando Miguel Moreno Magaña (born September 10, 1995) is a professional footballer who plays as a forward and winger for USL Championship club New Mexico United. Born in the United States, he represents the El Salvador national team. Career New York Red Bulls Moreno joined the New York Red Bulls Academy in November 2009 and played for the under-15, under-16, and under-18 sides. While playing for the under-16s Moreno scored 33 goals from 2010–2012. Santiago "Santi" Moar Sánchez (born 5 September 1993) is a Spanish footballer who plays as a forward for New Mexico United in the USL Championship. Moar is most frequently utilized as a left winger. Playing career Youth and college Moar played three years of college soccer at Pfeiffer University between 2014 and 2016, including a redshirted year in 2014.
