2020 LEC Season
The 2020 LEC season was the second year of the ''League of Legends'' European Championship (LEC), a professional esports league for the MOBA PC game ''League of Legends'', following its rebranding in late 2018. The spring regular season began on 24 January and was originally scheduled to conclude on 21 March; however, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the season was temporarily suspended on 13 March. Four days later, it was announced that all remaining LEC matches for the spring regular season would be played online, beginning on 20 March. League changes On 23 April 2020, it was announced that the LEC would be given four spots at the 2020 World Championship due to the region's performance in 2018 and 2019. Unlike previous years, all of the LEC's participants at the 2020 World Championship will qualify solely through summer playoffs. League Of Legends European Championship
The ''League of Legends'' EMEA Championship (LEC) is the professional ''League of Legends'' esports league run by Riot Games in the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) region, in which ten teams compete. Each annual season of play is divided into two splits, spring and summer, both consisting of nine weeks of round-robin tournament play, which then conclude with play-off tournaments between the top six teams. At the end of the season, the top performing teams qualify for the annual ''League of Legends'' World Championship. The LEC represents the highest level of ''League of Legends'' play in the EMEA. With the exception of some touring events, all games of the LEC are played live at Riot Games' studio in Adlershof, Berlin, Germany. The 2019 ''League of Legends'' World Championship was an esports tournament for the multiplayer online battle arena video game ''League of Legends''. It was the ninth iteration of the ''League of Legends'' World Championship, an annual international tournament organized by the game's developer, Riot Games. It was held from October 2, 2019, to November 10, 2019, in Berlin, Madrid and Paris. Carl Martin Erik Larsson (born 20 September 1996), better known as Rekkles (pronounced "reckless"), is a Swedish professional ''League of Legends'' player for Fnatic. He has played for Fnatic, Alliance, Elements, G2 Esports, and Karmine Corp. Originally from Älvängen, near Gothenburg, Rekkles lives in Berlin during the LEC season. Rekkles lived in the Fnatic gaming house in 2013. He became interested in video games after he injured his cruciate ligament playing football. His esport career took start in 2012, and played for ''League of Legends'' teams Playing Ducks, PAH, Team BLACK (as a substitute) and SK Gaming. Luka Perković (born 30 September 1998), better known as Perkz (previously stylized as PERKZ and before that as PerkZ), is a Croatian professional ''League of Legends'' player for Team Vitality. From 2015 to 2020, Perkz was a member of G2 Esports, when the team became the first European organization to win the Mid-Season Invitational in 2019. He reached the World Championship final in 2019, and is the only player to ever win eight LEC titles. In November 2020, Perkz left G2 to join LCS organization Cloud9 for the 2021 season. He is widely regarded as one of the best western players in League of Legends history.
