2020 Central Vietnam Floods
The 2020 Central Vietnam floods were a series of floods in Central Vietnam, which also affected some areas in Cambodia and Laos in October and early November 2020. The floods focused heavily in several provinces including Thừa Thiên Huế, Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, and Quảng Ngãi. The floods were mainly caused by the seasonal monsoon, though enhanced by numerous tropical cyclones. Vovinam
Vovinam (short for ''Võ Việt Nam''; literally meaning Vietnamese Martial Arts, or vi, Việt Võ Đạo (越武道), meaning Vietnamese Way of Martial Arts) is a Vietnamese martial art, It was founded in 1938 by Nguyễn Lộc. It is based on traditional Vietnamese subjects and eclectic sources. Vovinam involves the use of the hands, elbows, legs, knees and weapons such as swords, knives, chisels, claws, fans. Students also learn how to deal with hand-held weapons, counter-attacks, lock-ups, and levers. Nguyễn Văn Chiếu (4 November 1949 – 4 February 2020), baptismal name Peter) was a Vietnamese grand master of martial arts. He was the Chief of Vovinam Council from 27 September 2015 until his death. Biography Nguyễn Văn Chiếu was born on 4 November 1949 in Sài Gòn, Vietnam. His father was Nguyễn Văn Ba (1926-2014). Nguyễn Văn Chiếu started practicing Vovinam under the guidance of master Lê Sáng in 1965, when he was 16 years old. In 1967, after three years of hard practice, he earned his 3-dan black belt. In 1969, he started to teach Vovinam at Quy Nhơn city in Bình Định province. Bình Định is the homeland of traditional martial arts of Vietnam. Because many masters in Bình Định supported him, after five years, Nguyễn Văn Chiếu opened twelve dojos. Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân (born 12 April 1954, in Bến Tre Province) is a Vietnamese economist and politician. She is the first woman in Vietnamese history to head the country's legislature, serving as the eleventh Chair of the National Assembly of Vietnam from 2016 to 2021. She was a member of the 12th Politburo of the Communist Party, the country's highest decision-making body, in which she ranked second after General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng. Ngân previously served in the cabinet of Nguyễn Tấn Dũng from 2006 to 2011 under various ministries. Prior to entering national politics, she held the post of Party Secretary (''de facto'' Governor) of Hải Dương province from 2002 to 2006, being the first woman to hold this position and the only female provincial chief in Vietnam at that time.
