2020 Hartford Athletic Season
The 2020 Hartford Athletic season was the club's second season of existence and their second in the USL Championship, the second tier of American soccer. This article covers the period from October 20, 2019, the day after Hartford's final match of the 2019 regular season, to the conclusion of the 2020 USL-C Playoff Final, scheduled for November 12–16, 2020. Season in review Background, off-season and pre-season Hartford finished its inaugural season in next to last place in the Eastern Conference, seven table positions and fourteen points out of the playoff spots. The club parted ways with head coach Jimmy Nielsen just seven days after the 2019 season's end and signed former Southampton U-23 coach Radhi Jaïdi to fill the vacancy on November 8. Hartford Athletic is an American professional soccer team based in Hartford, Connecticut. The club was founded in 2018 and started play in the USL Championship in 2019. It is the only pro soccer team in Connecticut. History On June 8, 2021, Hartford Athletic announced they will be fielding a women's side to compete in the new USL W League beginning in 2022. Stadium The club plays on the grounds of Trinity Health Stadium, with a capacity of 5,500. The 1935 stadium was renovated and reopened on July 13, 2019, despite the fact the stadium was not completely finished. Lights were completed and first used for the stadium's first night game on September 14, 2019 (Hartford Athletic vs. Louisville City FC). During the construction of Trinity Health Stadium, Athletic played home games at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. Alex Dixon
Hugh Alexander Dixon (born February 7, 1990) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a winger for USL Championship club Monterey Bay FC. College and amateur The first youth club Dixon played for was the Texas Heat. He then joined the Houston Texans youth soccer club. He was a member of the United States U-17 residency program before returning to the Houston and joining the Houston Dynamo academy. He also trained with the Dynamo first team for a bit during the 2008 season. Dixon then spent three years at UNC Chapel Hill where he appeared regularly for the Tar Heels. Alejandro "Alex" Lara (born September 15, 1998) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for USL Championship club Monterey Bay FC. Career Youth, college and amateur Lara played one season with USSDA side Arsenal in 2015–2016, before playing college soccer at Mt. San Antonio College. After one season at Mt. SAC, Lara transferred to California State University, Northridge, where he played three more seasons. During his time with the Matadors, Lara made 53 appearances, scoring 2 goals and tallying 2 assists. Andre "Dre" Deas (born November 7, 1997) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for Flower City Union, in the National Independent Soccer Association. Career Youth, College and Amateur Deas played one season with USSDA side Concorde Fire in 2014–2015, before playing college soccer at the University of Central Florida. Kevin Politz
Kevin Politz (born March 22, 1996) is an American soccer player. Career Youth Politz was born in New Haven, Connecticut, but grew up in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township, New Jersey, where he attended Marlboro High School and was a member of the New York Red Bulls Academy. He was also a member of the US Soccer residency program at IMG Academy. Gabriel Torres (born 6 January 1996) is a Brazilian footballer who currently plays for Phoenix Rising FC in the USL Championship. Career UDC Torres played three years of college soccer at the University of the District of Columbia from 2016 to 2018.
