2020 German Football League
The 2020 German Football League season was the planned 42nd edition of the top-level American football competition in Germany. The regular season was expected to start on 25 April and was expected to end on 6 September 2020, followed by the play-offs. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the start of the season was first postponed, and later completely cancelled. The season was expected to conclude with German Bowl XLII, which was planned to be held on 10 October 2020 in Frankfurt. Instead German Bowl XLII was held on October 9, 2021 to end the 2021 German Football League season. Modus During the regular season each club plays all other clubs in its division twice, home and away, resulting in each team playing 14 regular season games. The best four teams in each division qualify for the play-offs where, in the quarter finals, teams from opposite divisions play each other, whereby the better placed teams have home field advantage. Allgäu Comets
The Allgäu Comets are an American football team from Kempten, Germany. The club is named after the Allgäu region of Bavaria, of which Kempten is the largest town. The club was originally formed as the Kempten Comets and renamed Allgäu Comets in 1993. The German Football League 2 (GFL2) is the second tier of American football in Germany, below the German Football League. Until 2007, the league was known as the ''2. Bundesliga''. The Stuttgart Scorpions are an American football team from Stuttgart, Germany. The club's greatest success came in 2007, when it reached the German Bowl but lost to the Braunschweig Lions. History The Stuttgart Scorpions were formed in December 1982. The new club spent its first couple of seasons in the ''2nd Bundesliga'', now the German Football League 2, where it played until 1985. The club, after having earned promotion, spent the 1986 and 1987 season in the central division of the ''American Football Bundesliga'', now the German Football League, but was only able to win one game in two years and found itself relegated back to the second tier for 1988. Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns
The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns are an American football team from Schwäbisch Hall, Germany. The club's greatest successes were winning the southern division title in the German Football League in 2009 and in every season played since 2011 (as of 2021), and participated in every German Bowl held between 2011 and 2022 – except for 2013 and the 2020 season which was cancelled due to Covid-19, winning the title five times: in 2011, 2012, 2017, 2018 and in 2022. The club also made five losing appearances in the German Bowl, suffering defeat by record champion Braunschweig Lions in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2019 and falling to the Dresden Monarchs in German Bowl XLII in 2021. The Ravensburg Razorbacks are an American football team in Ravensburg Germany. As its greatest success, the club reached the German Football League, the highest level in Germany, by having won the promotion play-off against Kirchdorf Wildcats in the postseason 2019. History The Ravensburg Razorbacks were formed in 1987. The team's first name was Lindenberg Razorbacks. It moved to Ravensburg and therefore changed the name to become part of the sports club TSB 1847 Ravensburg. In 1988, the Razorbacks started in the 4th and lowest German league level. The Ingolstadt Dukes are a German American football team from Ingolstadt, Bavaria. The club, formed in 2007, experienced its greatest success in 2016 when it won promotion to the German Football League, the top tier of league football in Germany. History The Ingolstadt Dukes were formed on 8 October 2007 at the club house of TV 1861 Ingolstadt, which became the parent organisation for the American football club. The early seasons of the new club were spent in nearby Manching as the Dukes were unable to secure a permanent home in Ingolstadt. The Frankfurt Universe are a German American football team from Frankfurt, Hesse. The club, formed in 2007, won promotion to the German Football League 2, the second tier of league football in Germany, in 2011. The team rebranded itself as "Frankfurt Galaxy" ahead of the 2015 season and won promotion to the first division German Football League Süd (South) at the end of this season.
