The 2020 Copa por México (officially Copa Grupo BAL#Grupo Nacional Provincial, GNP por México for sponsorship reasons) was a association football, football Season (sports)#Preseason, preseason club tournament organized by the Mexican Football Federation, FMF prior to the 2020–21 Liga MX season#Torneo Guardianes, 2020–21 Liga MX season that started on 23 July 2020. The tournament was held in two stadiums in two cities; the Estadio Akron in Zapopan and the Estadio Olímpico Universitario inside Ciudad Universitaria, Mexico City, Ciudad Universitaria in Mexico City. The tournament featured eight List of football clubs in Mexico, Mexican teams were divided into two groups of four teams. The tournament started on 3 July 2020 and ended on 19 July 2020. Cruz Azul won the tournament defeating C.D. Guadalajara, Guadalajara 2–1 in the final. Club de Futbol Cruz Azul or simply Cruz Azul () is a professional football club based in Mexico City, Mexico. It competes in the Liga MX, the top division of Mexican football. Because "azul" means "blue" in Spanish, the club has traditionally worn a blue home kit. Founded in Jasso, Hidalgo, the club moved officially to Mexico City in 1971, where it had already registered a great presence and activity since its beginnings. Estadio Azteca, the nation's largest sports venue, served as their home venue until 1996, when they moved to the Estadio Azul.
