2020 ANZ Premiership Season
The 2020 ANZ Premiership season was the fourth season of Netball New Zealand's ANZ Premiership. With a team coached by Yvette McCausland-Durie, captained by Katrina Rore and featuring Karin Burger, Aliyah Dunn and Ameliaranne Ekenasio, Central Pulse finished the regular season as minor premiers. In the grand final, Pulse defeated Mainland Tactix 43–31, winning their second consecutive premiership. Throughout the season, Netball New Zealand had to deal with considerable disruption because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This initially saw the league suspended for April and May. On its return in June, Round 2 through to Round 7 matches were all played behind closed doors at a single venue. In August, all Round 10 and two Final Series matches were cancelled and the Grand final was played behind closed doors. The ANZ Premiership is the top level netball league featuring teams from New Zealand. In 2017 it replaced the ANZ Championship, which also included teams from Australia, as the top level netball league in New Zealand. It is organised by Netball New Zealand. Its main sponsor is ANZ. In 2017, Southern Steel were the inaugural ANZ Premiership winners. Central Pulse are the league's most successful team, having won three premierships. Waikato Bay Of Plenty Magic
Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic are a New Zealand netball team based in Hamilton. Between 1999 and 2007, they played in the Coca-Cola Cup/National Bank Cup league. Between 2008 and 2016, they played in the ANZ Championship. Since 2017, Magic have represented Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty in the ANZ Premiership. Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty is the governing body that represents the North Island regions of Waikato and Bay of Plenty. During the National Bank Cup era, Magic were premiers in 2005 and 2006. During the ANZ Championship era, Magic were the most successful New Zealand team. In 2008 they were minor premiers and they were grand finalists in 2008 and 2010 before winning the overall title in 2012. They were the only New Zealand team to win the ANZ Championship. Canberra Giants
GIANTS Netball Academy is an Australian netball team that represents Netball New South Wales in the Australian Netball League. The team was originally formed in 2016 as a partnership between Netball ACT, Netball New South Wales and Giants Netball. Between 2017 and 2019 they played in the ANL as Canberra GIANTS. They were grand finalists in 2018. In 2019, Netball ACT and Giants Netball ended their partnership and the latter relaunched the team as the Giants Netball Academy. Celtic Dragons
Celtic Dragons are a Welsh netball team based in Cardiff. Their senior team plays in the Netball Superleague. In 2005–06 they were founder members of the league. Their best performance in the Superleague came in 2013 when they finished as runners up to Team Bath. Playing as Celtic Flames, Dragons also played in the 2017 Netball New Zealand Super Club. Celtic Dragons main partners include the Welsh Netball Association, the Wales national netball team and Cardiff Metropolitan University. Kalifa McCollin
Kalifa McCollin (born 18 July 1995) is a netball player from Trinidad and Tobago, who plays for the Collingwood Magpies in the Suncorp Super Netball league. Career McCollin's netball career commenced from a young age. Born in Trinidad and Tobago to sports-coaching parents, she was selected to play for the under-16 international team at the age of 12, and rose up the international ranks to make her senior debut for the national team in 2015, at the age of 17. She has represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2015 and 2019 Netball World Cups. In club netball, McCollin's ability led to her moving to the United Kingdom, where she played for the Celtic Dragons and Mavericks between 2016 and 2019, and became one of the Netball Superleague's most reliable attackers. Ellen Halpenny
Ellen Halpenny (born 25 July 1990) is a former New Zealand netball international. She was a member of the New Zealand team that were silver medalists at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. During the ANZ Championship era, Halpenny played for Canterbury Tactix and Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic. She subsequently played for Scottish Sirens during the 2017 Netball Superleague season. During the ANZ Premiership era, she played for Northern Stars and Southern Steel. Early life, family and education Halpenny is the daughter of Kerry and Mike Halpenny. She was born in Napier but moved to the South Island with her parents and brother, Patrick, when she was 10. She attended Villa Maria College, Christchurch. Daystar Swift
Daystar Swift (born 7 December 1991) is a Trinidadian netball player who plays for Trinidad and Tobago national netball team, Trinidad and Tobago in the positions of goal keeper or goal defense. She has featured for the national side in two World Cup tournaments in 2015 Netball World Cup, 2015 and in 2019 Netball World Cup, 2019. National Netball League (New Zealand)
The National Netball League is a New Zealand netball league. Since 2016 it has served as a second-level league, initially below the ANZ Championship and later below the ANZ Premiership. It is organised by Netball New Zealand. Between 2016 and 2020, due to sponsorship and naming rights arrangements, the NNL was known as the Beko Netball League. Since 2022, the league has been sponsored by Synergy Hair and, as a result, it is also known as the Synergy Hair National League. Vika Koloto
Vika Koloto (born 8 May 2002) is a Tongan New Zealander netball player who plays as a wing attack, goal attack, and goal shooter. She has represented Tonga internationally. She is the daughter of rugby league player Emosi Koloto. Koloto was born in Auckland, New Zealand and was educated at Baradene College of the Sacred Heart. She has been playing netball since the age of nine. In 2019 she was named to the New Zealand Secondary Schools netball team. Central Manawa are a New Zealand netball team based in Wellington. Since 2016 they have represented Netball Central in the National Netball League. Saviour Tui
Saviour Tui (born 17 October 2001) is a Samoa netball international. Tui was a member of three title winning teams in New Zealand's National Netball League. In 2018 and 2019, Tui won titles with Central Zone/Central Manawa. In 2021 she won a third title with Northern Marvels. She was also a member of the Central Pulse team that won the 2018 Netball New Zealand Super Club tournament. She was a fringe member of the 2021 Northern Mystics team that were ANZ Premiership champions. Since 2022, she has played for Southern Steel in the ANZ Premiership.
